Got to your computer manufacturer's website. find the drivers that pertain specifically to your system. when you get to that drives/software page, first thing is see if your BIOS has an update. Check the BIOS update that is listed, if there is one listed, against the BIOS that is currently installed on your system. Check the date and version. it is simple to do. Then just go down, and download and install all of your necessary drivers. And each time you download and install a driver that asks you to restart your system, then restart it then. When your system comes back up, go back to your driver page and just continue this process. Make sure you install the latest drivers, according to date and version. An easy suggestion for you is once you get to your specific laptop drivers/software page, you can add this to your favorites page list. Then, when you are back from restarting each time you need to, your drivers/software page is easily found by just looking into your favorites page section. That will keep you from having to always put all the information back in to get to the drivers page.

Cant boot only says cant find operating system uncle says it needs a new hard drive, is it true ?

not always. you didnt state what system you have so all of this may not work for you. first if you have a floppy drive, check that there is not a disk in the drive. check your cdrom or DVD.
the hard drive can be removed and hooked into another computer to be checked.
read this article and you will get more info.
i do not know your level of knowledge of the workings of a computer of if you have done anything new to the unit, so this article should help you a little more.

Insert your windows disc. Make sure its booting from the disc drive. Let it load. Select REPAIR COMPUTER. Recovery console comes up. Choose your windows intallation (C:). Type your password (if there isnt one leave it blank), press enter. Type in CHKDSK /R. Let it complete the scan. This should fix your problem.

Cd drive does not work

Maybe because you are just using a cd drive and your recovery disc is a dvd disc?
please reply so I can help you more.

If it is a dvd disc then you need to have a dvd drive to recognize it.

You can just borrow an external dvd drive from a friend to temporarily resolve your problem. :)

I have a 14-18 month old samsung R20 Laptop / Note book. Whene i bought it ithey set up a pass word for me and a reset disk. I have my samsung Vista Disk and not the reset disk as i have moved twice since...

You should try to boot from either an Ubuntu Linux disc and get the data off the hard disk (to say a pen drive or a portable hard drive), or you can download Hiren's Boot Disc and try the various utilities to boot the computer and get the data off the hard drive.

Note that you'll need to burn the above images on to disc using your disc imaging program like Nero, Roxio, etc. Choose the option "burn image to disc" in your CD writing program.

Once you get the data backed up, format the laptop and reinstall vista from your Vista disc.

Hope that helps,

Raspal

My sony laptop with windows xp home media center keeps rebooting

When XP gets into the rebooting mode, you will have to run a chkdsk or do an XP repair. You will not lose your data. But you do need your recovery cd or a WinXP cd.

Take the Windows XP disk. Boot from it, then DO NOT select F2 (automated system recovery) but continue through the procedure until you get to the point where you can choose between installing Windows XP and entering the Recovery Console. Once you get into the Recovery Console, do chkdsk and fix potential errors on your disks! Type chkdsk C: /R at the prompt in the recovery console.

XP repair
When you boot with the Win XP install CD-ROM, it loads a minimal operating system, similar to DOS, but compatible with Win XP. At the first screen you select install Win XP (not Recovery Console) and at the next screen it will find that you already have Win XP and offer to attempt a repair. This repair should not touch your Applications or data; it just reinstalls the Windows files. This is great because when it works you don't need to reinstall all your software.
Lastly, your drive can be taken out of the unit and set into an enclosure or adapter. The data can be saved, the your hard drive can be formatted and programs and data reinstalled.
Good Luck,
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Windows

Hello,

You may have a boot sector virus. At my bench I would remove your hard drive and install it on one of my towers and run a virus scan on your hard drive. Recovery from a boot sector virus is very difficult using tools found in Hiren's Boot disc, a cdrom that contain various programs to recover a hard drive.

Lastly, you may simply have lost the boot strap loader (even though this doesn't make any sense if you have used your recovery CD and recovery partition with success. If you boot and hear a beep, press F8 repeatedly immediately after the beep and you'll receive the recovery bootup option screen, choose Safe Mode first and see if that works, if not choose last know good configuration and otherwise if offerred choose use System Restore.

If all this fails you as a user you need service from a professional.

Hope this has helped or fixed ya.
