I turn the pc on nd the motherboard beeps like an alarm. I've pulled everycard out, ram, cpu etc and just left the fans plugged in, but the problem still persists.

TY for your reply. I know the pc won't boot without the CPU. The reason for taking everything out was to see if the error persisted with just the board being powered, which it did. I've put all of the cards, cpu etc back in and I get the same beep error. I've tried various combinations of the cards etc but the error stays put lol. I swapped out the mobo for the exact same spare board that I have and got the same error. The only common thing is the PSU so I'm going to try an alternative PSU.

What is the BIOS Beep Code? List the code as you hear it.

  • dp_fox2002 Aug 07, 2011

    Hi,

The beeps are continuous, I gave up counting at 80. The mobo is an abit max 32 and the error code on the board shows as 8e.

If you pull out the CPU it won't boot, try only to pull out the RAM, if it persist try to change it with another that you're sure it works, if you have more than one ram card, try to plug one by one, shutting down the pc every time. Tell us if you've solved!

The beeps are the clue to what is wrong: Count the beeps and check against beep codes like at http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm
Check that *********** board is listed, some use slightly different codes...

Alienware Area-51 Desktop won't boot up long beep

The fan to the left of your RAM slots needs to spin, it may be the reason for your problem. If this is the CPU fan then you may have a dead CPU.

Contact a computer technician for repair or claim warranty support.

Take care!

My Acer Aspire M5100 get power but will not turn on

Does the CPU fan come on ?
Does the power lead that plugs into the cpu fan on the motherboard supply the required voltage ?
This one is a bit harder and once you check it you most likely need to apply thermal paste - but is there sufficient thermal paste between the CPU and the heat sink on the CPU ?
Does the power supply box in the tower case have its fan spinning when power on ?
Is the motherboard bent ?
I have seen this one - poor installation with different sized mounting screws. When motherboard gets hot the motherboard went faulty.
Some motherboards need a rubber insulator under the screw maybe there is a short under one of the mounting screws !

My acer aspire one notebook laptop when I push the power button comes on and shows the start up screen and then the screen instantly goes to this black screen with a little white line blinking in the top...

Perhaps you've built a computer and are turning it on for the first time, or you've owned this computer for awhile. Either way, you may encounter an issue where the monitor shows a black screen and the computer is beeping. There are several causes and solutions for this problem.

1.Refer to your motherboard manual, since the motherboard is the beeping device. These beeps are like Morse code, and each "beep code" is explained in the manual. Common beep codes include not having a monitor or keyboard properly connected; not having a CPU fan connected, or not attaching internal power cables to the video card. This black-screen-and-beeping issue is most common with newly-assembled computers.
2.Check external cables to make sure they're properly connected. The most important external connections to check are the monitor's signal cable and the keyboard. If your monitor cable looks damaged or kinked, try replacing it with a spare. If your keyboard's cable looks frayed, try a spare keyboard.

Also, a PS/2 keyboard plug (round, with holes in it, about the diameter of a finger) is often color-coded purple. If you have plugged it into the green port in the back of the computer (for PS/2 mice) switch it to the other one. If there is no color coding, the proper port should have a small, embossed icon of a keyboard on the back of the computer. If it does not, refer to your motherboard manual for the correct port. If all else fails, try a spare keyboard, preferably USB (Universal Serial Bus), which can be plugged into any USB port on the back of the computer.
3.Check for additional motherboard power connections. Yours may require multiple cables attached from the power supply. There is the standard wide plug, which you know is connected properly because your motherboard is beeping. However, there may also be an additional, four-pin cable that connects elsewhere on the motherboard. Check the board's manual to make sure it has all the power connections it needs.
4.Check your internal cables. Make sure that the CPU fan is plugged into the motherboard header nearby. Without that, the CPU fan will not spin, and the motherboard may detect this lack of connection and produce a beep code. Your video card also may have one or two internal power plugs that need to be attached to the power supply's cables. These cables have unique ends on them, similar in shape to a USB plug. Refer to the case or video card documentation if need be. If those cables are not attached, your motherboard may refuse to boot the system.

Your video card may be faulty. If this is a new card, it may have arrived to you broken, in which case you will probably need to request an RMA (Return to Manufacturer Authorization) to receive a replacement. If this card was previously working for you in this system, you can contact its manufacturer yourself to receive a replacement, if the device is still under warranty.

I hope you find it very helpful.

As soon as the power supply was connected and switched on, the motherboard would power up and the fans would spin.. all hard drives/optical drives etc would turn on. But there was no post, or beeps, just a...

Sounds like you have a short in your display plug or the display itself. You also should try different or new ram sticks to eliminate ram as the cause.Try an external monitor also to see if there is any video showing.Technicians seem to always say the motherboard is bad to get the most money when the motherboard most of the time isn't bad its whats connected to it(ram,display,cd/dvd drives etc.

No beep,No Display on my monitor, only CPU heatsink fan is moving

have you thought about changing the battery on the motherboard, also checking that the fan on the cpu is seated properly with enough heatsink paste as both these issues will stop the pc from booting

Power problem i think

If there is no beep, even after removing RAM means you have faulty Motherboard and/or faulty Processor.

Try to reconnect CUP also clean the CPU socket on board and try to test without RAM, if you got long beep (RAM missing) then proceed further i.e. add RAM, HDD, CD/DVD etc step by step.

If didn't get any beep try to test with other motherboard/CPU to find which one is faluty.

Please post your feedback.

Thanks and Good Luck
