Question about Canon EOS 40D Digital Camera

Problems with viewfinder

Dear camera expert :)
something happened to the viewfinder in my 40D. i think that something is blocking the vision, the top of the viewfinder (on the whole line is kinda blurred) unlike other edges (left, right and bottom). i compared it with my friend's 40D, after removing the lens we noticed that in mine this soft foam/sponge is slightly longer. i quite certain this causes the obstruction. my question is, how do we fix it? can i do it in any camera repair shop or it is better to send it to canon? it is still on warranty.
Thanks a lot for help!

My 40D cannot start up. There is no response when I push the On/Off button. It remains the same after changing to the full-charged battery which came with the camera.
Thanks for your help.

When I view a picture taken with Canon 40D the top of the picture is dark and the bottom of the picture is showing.. It almost looks as though something is blocking the picture. What could my problem be?...

If the internal mirror does not completely flip up out of the way when the shutter opens, part of the picture will not be exposed. That sound like your problem. Look inside with the lens off and fire off a few shots.

All my photos are slightly out of focus-no matter what setting i'm on.

One possibility that you can correct:
The eyepiece (viewfiender) diopter is out of adjustment for your eyesight.
Look at the viewfinder and locate the "slider".
Now look through the eyepiece (viewfinder) while in auto-focus mode.
Adjust the slider, left or right, until the image looks sharp to you.
If you wear corrective glasses, you can adjust the diopter whether you use your glasses or not.

This solution assumes that you are shooting in auto-focus; however, this also works in manual mode.

How do I have the viewfinder image show in the LCD display

The EOS 350D doesn't have that function (Live View). You need to shoot with the viewfinder. Only later models of D-SLRs have Live View functions (EOS 500D, 50D, 40D, etc). You can however, playback your captured shots by pressing the "Play" button

Shutter will fire intermitantly on Canon 40D. It focuses but will not fire but if pressed repeatedly it will fire after several shutter presses. I have changed batteries, I have swapped to other lenses...

This is just a possibility not really a solution: If the AF spot is aimed at a part of the picture lacking details, it cannot focus (all cameras are the same in that respect) Normally (I don't know the canon) there is an indicator to tell you if the camera managed to focus. It can be a beep or a dot which light in the viewfinder. I suspect that in your case you were aiming at something lacking details.

Internal Flash not working-Canon Eos 40D

I've had this happen to me too and I've been researching about it. Aparantly it happens because the camera still think the external flash is attached. If you go into the menu and under flash control, try ot enter the settings for built in flash. If this is the problem it will tell you here that the external flash is still attached. From what I have read to far, I'm not sure how to fix it. I would reccomend taking it in somehwere. I dont htink its a hard problem to fix.
