Hi,

There could be conflict with the printer and the drivers you have installed. You have installed the pre-loaded ( In-OS ) drivers for the HP Printer

I have 2 possibly solutions for this issue

1. Right click on the printer icon and click troubleshoot
Continue with the Troubleshoot Wizard and try printing.

If this does not work

2. Click on start button
Right click on Computer
Left Click on Manage

From the window Click on Device Manager from left panel
Under device manager You will find Imaging device and below you will find Universal Serial bus controller
Click + sign on Universal Serial Bus control and locate the USB port assigned for HP Printer
Right click on the Printer name assigned on port and Click Uninstall Drivers
The drivers will be uninstalled

To install the drivers back, Disconnect the USB Cable from PC or Printer and plug back. It will start installing the drivers

This should be helpful to you.

Trying to set up my hp deskjet 5550 printer to my computer without a cd.

Hello,

this is not possible. without the CD, you cannot setup the printer.

The good news is that you can download and install the driver/software of your printer without the CD from the below link. Once the link opens, select your operating system (Win xp/vista/7) and proceed from the download.

After clearinf the Defence Virus my printer prints

Hi There,

In my experience with HP's (maybe more than I'd like :)), I've found that when you decide to remove and re-install an HP, the temp files from the first installation, no matter how long ago, stay within Windows and interefere with a frsh install. You can install a different HP or another brand and you won't be affected because those leave their own set of temp files.

So, even though a key file could have been removed in taking out the virus and the temp file removal solution may not help you, here's how to do it and it can't hurt to try.

Uninstall the 5550 from the Control Panel. Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and press the R key. A Run Command window will appear. Type in %TEMP% and hit the enter key. Your Temp File Folder will appear. Delete every file that Windows will allow (a few may remain because they are in use for normal Windows functions). Reboot your computer. Go to the Start Button>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools and run Disk Cleanup. Reboot your computer.

Now reinstal the 5550. If it doesn't run correctly after this, you'll know that the virus did damage within the small memory section of the printer and that's a problem I've personally never faced. Even if this is the case, at least you now know the proper and thorough way to re-install an HP Printer.

Good Luck

My HP 5550 Deskjet won't print mirror image

You'll need to go to the manufacturer's site and find Vista drivers for your HP. Going from Win 98 to Vista is a major jump. I had to convert from XP to Vista and I still had to go get Vista drivers.

Also, make sure you get 32 or 64 bit drivers for the system.

Duplex not recognised

You need to set the duplexer to installed. For Vista this would be done as follows: go to the Printers folder, Right Click on the 5550, Run as Administrator, Properties, (continue), Device Settings, Installable Options, Duplex unit (set to Installed), Apply, OK.

Once you have done this in Vista the duplexer will work but the back side may print upside down regardless of the settings. This can be corrected with a patch available here.

Double sided (duplex) printing not possible

I researched the error and there is no mention of incompatibility with Vista. Un-install the drivers and re-install them from HP's web site.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
