Sa177/00 "recovery mode" problems in Philips Firmware Manager

I use philips gogear sa177/00 about 1.5 year. Few weeks ago first problem have appeared. It looks like that. I can turn on player and even can listen music for a some seconds but suddenly player turn off. Battery fully charged. I have the same problem each time I turn on player.

I have lost CD with software for player. So I have downloaded Philips Firmware Manager from www.p4c.philips.com and have try to recovery firmware in my gogear. I have used "recovery mode". But I have got message "Device update failed" when Firmware Manager try to erase player's memory (this stage in main window of Philips Firmware Manager has name "Allocating Table"). I have pushed "Ok" in the message window and Firmware Manager was closed. After that I can't turn on philips gogear at all. It does not show anything on the display when I push ||> button.

Could you help me solve this problem, please? Maybe I need to use firmware from another philips gogear model?

There is only 1 problem with defrag. When I connect gogear to pc gogear do not appeares in the disk's list. I even can't select it to try to defrag. Now gogear appeares in the disk's list only when I start "recovery mode" in the Philips Firmware Manager. But during recovery I can't do anything with gogear (e.g. defrag). I can only look through gogear's properties. And I see on the display gogear is full. There is no empty space.

So I do not know how I can defrag gogear... : (

I have the same problem , but mine is older , is about 3 years old it was very new when it was gaved to me as a present :D .in my case i turn it on and after the "Go Gear" logo apears it turns OFF suddenly , i try again and maybe it starts playing but it turns OFF again. i tried to RESET but after some minutes it happends again , i had this problem even when it was about 1 year old and at that time i updated the firmware but know i have again the problem , i'll try the same but i think after all this years is time to actually change it because the battery dosen't stay on very much(a couple of hours 3-4) comparing with aprox. 10-12 when it was new.now i erased the memory and format it and i'll try to copy the songs on it again and try to see what happends . in your case can try the same .PS : i wanted to do reverse engeneering on the firmware to convert the language in my language which is not in the original firmware listing.

My gogear freezes every couple of minutes!

Update the firmware first

It could be a hardware issue requiring replacement, but here are the things you can try to narrow it down:
1. Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged
2. Reset the player
3. Run an Updated using the latest version of the Philips Device Manager from Philips website
4. Run a Repair in Philips Device Manager

Triple Reset for Philips’ GoGear:

Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

If these methods fail, call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

I have a Philips Gogear Mp3 player. suddenly I'm not able to switch on the power supply and i tried charging it for 4-5 hrs.no Use. It's just 4 months old. can u help me?

It's dead. The HDD models are basically obsolete - you may have purchased it 4 months ago, but it was manufactured 3 years ago. Here is the basic troubleshooting to be sure, but it won't work:

If you have tried the reset, then it could be one of the following:
1. faulty charger - Need to replace it
2. Faulty/failing battery - Need to replace it
3. Faulty contacts / cable - Need to replace the cable or service the unit for faulty contacts.

If you are able to switch on the unit, try the following:
Please follow the steps below to recover and upgrade your player with the latest firmware:
  1. Make sure that your computer is online and connecting to the Internet.
  2. Launch the Firmware Manager at Start->Programs->Philips Firmware Manager on your PC.
  3. Connect your GoGear to the computer while pressing & holding the 070119082257_17362.gif(>||) key until the Firmware Manager recognize the GoGear and a dialogue boxpop up in recover mode.** If you failed going to recovery mode, “pleaseconnect the device in recovery mode” is displayed please repeat step 1to step 3.
  4. Click Start to confirm and start recovering the unit to its factory setting.
IMPORTANT: All music & content of your GoGear Player will be erased once the factory setting is restored.
  5. Follow all screen instructions and click Finish at the end to complete the recovery.
  6. The Firmware manager will close automatically once the success message is displayed.
  7. You can now remove your player and start using it again.
You could also try to manually upgrade the firmware and see if that helps...

My philips gogear 4gb

Code 10 errors can be resolved by completely uninstalling the Philips Device Manager and other software that came with the GoGear installation CD, and then reinstalling the clean version of the software from the Philips website.  Then running a Repair. The version of the Device Manager that is on the installation CD is not the same version as the one from the website.
Recovery Mode for Philips' GoGear
Open the Philips Device Manager and click on the “Repair” tab.  Then click on the “Repair” button to start the repair process.  Most of the time, when your player is in that state, the Device Manager will not recognize that your GoGear is plugged in.  If this is the case: Disconnect the player from the PC, and make sure the mp3 player is turned off. Hold in the volume + button on the mp3 player, and reconnect the player to your pc while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the volume + for 10-15 seconds until a "Found New Hardware Wizard" pops up. It should recover your device if there isn't anything internally wrong with the player. Warning: this procedure will result in your songs being erased off the player, so they will have to be reloaded.

Philips GoGear Firmware Upgrade
You need to get the latest firmware upgrade from the Philips website:
1. Go to www.philips.com/support
2. Enter your country/language
3. Enter your model # SA6045 or whatever
4. Click on the link for your exact model # (the one w/o the "B" in it)
5. Click on "Software & Drivers"
6. Download the updated "Device/Firmware Manager"
7. Once installed, open the Philips Device Manager
8. Click on the "Update" tab, then the "Update" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course)
9. Your Mp3 players firmware will update automatically
If you do not have the latest version of the Philips Device Manager installed (the latest is the version from the Philips website), then clicking the "Update" button will give you a false positive saying "The firmware on your device is already up to date."

Philips GoGear 2GB memory corruption

You have to do the "update" in the Philips Device Manager (make sure you are connected to the internet when you do) to repair the corruption: Recovery Mode for Philips' GoGear
Open the Philips Device Manager (Start à All Programs à Philips Digital Audio Player à SAXXX à Philips Device Manager) and click on the “Repair” tab.
