Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Hotpoint washing machine vibrate/oscillates violently when on spin mode. Installation instructions tell you to adjust the feet, which I have done. I have also tried different sizes of load - no difference to problem. This is a new washer. The washer does not have the problem when put on spin with no load added..... strange. steve

Have you removed the transit bolts? this is the usual cause of violent vibration. if not, do not use the machine till this is done as you can cause a lot of damage

Vibrates when it spins

Here are a few quick facts on washing machine vibration.
  1. All washing machines and dryer vibrate. Dryers usually have less vibration than washers because the load is only wet clothes (as opposed to a drum of water and clothes). Front loading washing machines cause high frequency vertical oscillation while top loading washers usually have horizontal oscillation.
  2. Almost all front loading washing machines are not recommended for use on standard joist-construction floors (most common floor type, compared to a concrete slab sub-floor). Manufactures like GE, LG, Maytag, Samsung, Whirlpool, Kenmore, Bosch and more, all recommend installing a pad like Silent Feet under the washing machine to absorb the vibration.
  3. The only alternative to using Silent Feet pads to prevent structural damage is costly upgrading of the sub-floor. This usually involves adding a second layer of plywood sub-floor and adding sister boards to the rafters that support the floor. But even this won't reduce the amount of vibration noise that you hear. Sub-floor upgrades can cost thousands of dollars.
  4. Vibration can also cause appliance "walking" (unwanted movement) usually during the spin cycle. Simply installing a pad designed to prevent walking can solve this problem and mean that you'll never have to reposition your washer after every load again. Both Original Silent Feet and Anti-Walk Silent Feet prevent walking, however for washers that move a lot or stacked units it is recommended that you install Anti-Walk Silent Feet for the best results.
You were not specific in either type or model. I hope the above information helps. Also, the size of the loads plays a great part in how a machine functions. have a nice day

Washing machine shakes violently during spin

Hi

If your washing machine shakes violently or if there's a loud thumping noise during the spin cycle, the load of clothes has probably gotten unbalanced. Open the lid, redistribute the clothes in the washer, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

Washing machine is off balance and vibrating violently

Have you tried adjusting the feet? If that doesn't work you may have to get someone qualified to remove the back and check the springs are attached.

Bad vibrations/shaking with LG washing machine WM2032HW

What's the exact model of your washing machine? I'll need this to get you exact part numbers.
If you're looking for a quick and cheap fix that works. Try installing a rubber anti-vibration pad under the washer. I've had the best luck with a pad called Silent Feet. They are pretty hard to find in stores but Amazon.com carries the full line of Silent Feet anti-vibration pads. They will provide you with the best results short of replacing the full shock isolation assembly in the washer. And they cost a lot less.

Hotpoint wf620 aquarius very noisy and not letin any water in

A washer usually shakes or vibrates when it isn’t sitting firmly and level on the floor or because it has an out-of-balance wash load. First eliminate the possibility of the latter—adjust the load if it has scrunched up on one side of the tub. Then check the machine for solid, level support. For the machine to work properly, the floow must be flat, level, and strong enought to support the heavy, water-filled washer without deflecting under the load.

1) Unplug the washer.

2) Look under the washer, and make sure all feet are resting firmly on the floor.

3) Make sure the front legs have locking nuts to keep them tight and that the legs have rubber caps. If they don’t, buy these parts and install them.

4) Make the front feet as short as possible by screwing them up into the machine. Place a level on top of the washing machine and adjust the front feet slightly if needed to level the washer; do not fully extend them.

5) If necessary, tilt the washing machine forward. This will let the back feet self adjust. Recheck for level, and adjust the front feet again.

6) Plug in the machine, and run it empty through the spin cycle to see if it still vibrates.

7) If it does, call a repairperson or the manufacturer to ask about solutions.

Thanks for your question

Shook Violently first time on spin cycle

Make sure the washer is leveled properly and all four feet are resting on the floor. If it is level, try running one cysle without any clothes in it to see it is spins without that violent shaking.. you may have also had an out of balance load.. Hope that helps!

My Maytag top loading washing machine mdl#LA412 shakes violently on spin cycle with no clothes in it, a mechanic leveled the feet but it still vibrates bad. Any suggestions please!!

The ground under one of the feet may have collapsed.
The drum may be loose.
One of the springs that support the drum may have broken.
Check the machine by just trying to wobble it on it's feet, this way you can tell if it is firmly on the floor. check that the machine is level
Look down on the drum against the body and see if it is central to the frame and just get hold of the rim and try to give the drum a shake and see if it is loose, these machines always shake a bit because of the design, they are normally used in nursing homes etc in the uk

ADDITIONALLY,CHECK AND MAKE SURE TRANSPORT BARS ARE CORRECTLY REMOVED.NOTICED ON MANY OCCASIONS TO THAT IF WASHER IS IS USED ON TYLED FLOOR, IT WILL SLIP AND SLIDE REGARDLESS. ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE, CHECK IF STABALISER BLOCK HASNT POSSIBLY WORKED ITSELF LOOSE.
