My Compaq Presario sr5410f won't power up...the switch lights up but the system won't come on...please help

Out in internet world there are 2 main reasons for this:
1) You need a new power supply.
2) Your CPU is overheating. Check fans are working and give it a good cleaning.
HP computers do this a lot. Some have come back by leaving them off for a day or 2. Others come back by disconnecting it fromt he wall. pushing the power button a few times (this clears any electrical charge that may be in the system).
Good Luck.

Pavilion 533c wont turn on

ok take everything off the back of the HP only leave the key board, mouse and power cord, then trace your power cord to the stick that six outlets take it off that plug it directly into the wall, both the HP computer and monitor then try turning it on.

make sure that this machine does not have switch on the pwr supply on back of pc.some times it is hard to see it. make sure there is pwr to the outlet and try different outlet. do you see any lights on back or front of pc. if not means no pwr is coming to pwr supply.

My tower has power but won't come on

first guess is the motherboard is bad

a few things you can try:

unhook the monitor from the computer and test it on another computer. If the monitor works then its most likely the motherboard.

leave the computer unplugged for a few hours then plug it back up and give it another try just in case it overheated.

have the computers power supply tested as a bad power supply can cause all sorts of issues.

other than that you are down to a new motherboard and or a new computer.

Stays in standby or sleep mode afer switch off

Problem solved. inside this computer there are a set of dip switches a block of 4 top middle of circuit board, 1 up 3down, what i did was to switch all switches to the the up posistion, and not having a clue what would happen.

Ureka the computer came on, if you switch of and switch on again comp becomes operative at once, depending how long you leave it off the longer it takes to come on.

Example if it is switched off say overnight it will take about 2.5 mins to come on, it seem that the comp is doing some sought of self checking. I could play around with those dip switches but as it is now working and i understand what is happening (I think) i will leave well alone.

First and simplest thing to try is make sure printer, monitor, and anything else attatched to your computer is turned off and the main box (of course. switch off at the socket and remove plug-plugs
next check no wires have come loose in the back of your computer- leave for a few minutes (go and make a cup of tea, coffee whatever) plug something else into the socket like a radio or hairdryer to make sure a fuse haasn't blown or something.
plug everything back into sockets switch plugs back on, turn on monitor and other bits and bobs but leave the main box till last switch this on and hold the button down for about the count of 5, and hopefully all will be well. Good Luck

I have a hp pavillion 710 pc when it is plugged into the mains supply the power light comes on for a second and then dies out, would this be the power unit which I plug into

I think I had this same problem once before. It sounds familiar but could use a few more details as to exactly what happens. From what you have said so far though it sounds like either the main power to the PC is switched off, or your power supply for the machine might be bad. First I would try looking in the back of the computer. On some of them there is a little switch usually towards the top that allows you to turn the computers power on and off. If you plug into the wall it usually will come on for a second before turning off and then when you go to turn you computer on if the switch in the back is off you computer will not start if you use the normal power button in the front. I hope that fixes your problem. If that is not the case please give me a few more details on it and I will do my best to help you get to the bottom of it :). Good luck.

Hp tc 1100 got switchedoff all of sudden either power is working or system got shutdown and it is not coming up

unplug the power to the system completely.
Locate the mains voltage selector switch and toggle it from 110 to 220 and back a fiew times. BE SURE ITS SET BACK!
This has been known to reset a power supply that is in SHOCK.
If this does not work or you cannot find the red selector switch. then leave it unplugged for a while and check that there is nothing shorting the power supply.
Also let me know if it is able to DO ANYTHING like lights or if it looks to be trying to start and where it dies.

Equium M40X freezes

Hi, it seems your experiencing a overheat issue. At least one fan inside your PC has stopped working. The PC monitors internal heat, when the PC reaches a certain temperature it will shut down & or freeze. Chances are it's the CPU fan.
