Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
The cause of the E74 Error might be overheating of
your console and for avoiding such error messages in future you need to
put your machine at an open space. Ensure that it is placed near the
window or you can also make some external arrangement for cooling the
console such as cooling the machine through a pedestal fan etc. But as
your Xbox already have E74 Problem, You can either send your Xbox to
Microsoft for repair ( just for your information Microsoft is no longer
providing Extended warranty for E74 Problem), Microsoft generally takes
3-4 weeks to fix the problem. If you can't wait for a month (I know
most XBox gamers can not wait without their favourite Gaming device),
You can also fix E74 Problem yourself and that too within an hour
without any technical knowledge. I would suggest you to check out the DIY Xbox Fix Guide for more information.

Try using a new AV lead as that could be at fault.
check the pins inside the AV plug and socket on the back of the xbox 360 console to make sure there are no bent pins.
if all that fails the video controller chip on the PCB will need to be resoldered or replaced, i think microsoft can fix this under their 3 year extended guarantee.
