1Plugged coils (lint and dirt) cutting off air flow will cause the problem you describe; Also
2 Fan that will not run underneath the box 3 Defective compressor 4 Compressor starting components, are the 1st items that come to mind with a description like yours.
But first check your controls inside and make sure they are set to mid range. 2
types of controls in refrigerators 1 for on off and 1 for air flow. If
this control you mentioned has "off" on it this is the thermostat. Look
for the other one and set it to mid range

Most newer freezers have self defrosting. But it will not thaw out the food at all. For it to thaw completely in 1 day, the compressor did not come on at all. I would first check the fuse or circuit breaker in your home. Many different issues could cause the same result of the freezer not getting cold at all. Defective thermostat, defective compressor, refrigerant leak or loose wiring at connection points. It could possibly be stuck in the defrost mode too.
HI JULIE.TRY DEFROSTING ALL FIRST 24/48 HOURS.(USE ALTERNATIVES FOR FASTER DEFROSTING.ie;hair dryer;steamer;boiling water bowls etc.)if ok after that great.if same again then 1-defrost timer 2-defrost heater 3- t/stat.good luckALI
why did you stop the ice maker? was it not working properly? was it over flowing or leaking? do you have a sheet of ice forming in the ice maker tray? if your ice maker was leaking then your water valve is not shutting off completely and could be leaking down on the food. if this is the case - you need to shut the water line off coming into the refrigerator and replace your water valve.
if it is frost that is forming on your food instead of ice then you should check to see if the refrigerator is defrosting properly. if the refrigerator is not defrosting properly you would also first notice that the refrigerator is not cold enough and then later that the food in the freezer eventually thawing.
After taking the back out of the inside of the freezer compartment I noticed the whole coil was frozen solid. Using a hair dryer I thawed out the ice and then went to get parts. I asked for a defrost heater and the technician at the parts store felt it was more than likely a defrost heater sensor as they had been replacing quite a few for this brand LG fridge/freezer combination. I replaced the defrost heater sensor and put the unit back together. It has been 3 days now and all is working fine. first check to see if the compressor and fan on the lower back of frig is working,if it is then check the freezer to see if the freezer fan is working,if it is then find the defrost timer(most of the time behind the front grill or inside frig. or on lower back)turn it til it clicks, wait 30 minutes and see if it comes out of defrost(you k=will know this if the freezer fan comes back on,let me know what you find-mike
