I just bought a canon f149200; i am going to use it mainly for faxing; however, it just won't fax. You know that squelching sound that signals a fax connection.... in this case, the squelching sound is stopped in middle and the fax just won't go through.
Am i missing setting i failed to turn on?
There should be a setting, most likely under advanced fax settings that is called Rings To Answer. That normally can be adjusted from one to seven rings.
Phone company services: Do you have any of the
following telephone line services from your telephone company: Voice Mail,
Privacy Block, Security Screen, Anonymous Call Rejection, and Privacy Manager.
These phone services are meant to prevent unwanted
calls, but they will also stop faxes. Contact your telephone company for their
recommended solution for receiving faxes on the same line with these
services.
If you wish to receive faxes automatically, verify
that automatic answering is enabled on models that have an Auto Answer button, or that the Rings to
Answer setting is set to a number equal to or larger than one for models that do
not have an Auto Answer button. On models with an Answer Mode setting, it should
be set to Fax, FaxTel, or AnswerMachine depending on your setup.
If you have a HP PSC 2200 or an Officejet 6100 that
interrupts calls or will not receive faxes, download and install the HP Firmware
update for these products.
Type in your model number (HP PSC 2210xi for
example).
Click the search arrow to the right of the text
entry box.
You may be asked to select your product from a list
of models.
On the software download page, select your Windows
version.
Locate and select the firmware update.
Follow the directions to download and install the
update.
If an answering machine is connected to the same
line, fax reception problems can occur. These problems may be corrected by
changing settings or phone line connections. For more information on using a TAM
or distinctive ring service, go to Using
the HP All-in-One and Fax Products with a Telephone Answering Machine
(bpu04072).
If you have a PBX phone system, or an ISDN or DSL
modem connected to the line, there may be some phone line configuration
problems. Fax machines are analog devices and cannot be used on a digital phone
service such as those used in many businesses (PBX systems). Install an analog
phone line for a fax machine. Refer to document Using
an HP All-in-One or Fax Product on a PBX, ISDN, or DSL Phone System
(bpu50333) to learn how to correct these problems.
If the problem still exists, continue troubleshooting in the Faxes cannot be sent or
received or you're not sure of the problem section below .

Hi Lorraine, normaly with this fax it have a auto print off setting that keep the faxes in memory. You can turn auto print to on by pressing the on/off button once less than a second, then it will switch to auto print on.
Let me know if you dont succeed.
On the Canon copy machines when this happens, normally it is a bad wiring harness....sounds like your switch is good, but the signal for 'roller down' is not reaching the main board, thus it repeatedly cycles up and down. Try continuity test on the wiring harness from switch connector end to main board connector end...it's a pain to do this, however, when you find the open wire connection, it's worth it.
That's not even a coherent response. Even analog phones go from an analog signal from your home, to a digital signal at the carrier, to an analog signal at the recipients end. It all goes digital at some point.
Fax machines work fine with a digital phone. The baud rate may need to be lowered in some cases, but working for a cable company, I've personally worked with hundreds of fax machines that work just fine.
Try lowering the baud rate and/or using a DSL filter if you are having problems. If you are unable to find the baud rate or speed setting on your fax, you may want to contact Canon to find out how.
Hi THe main difference in the phone fax line is that if you are only using as a fax plug the cable from phone socket into the line socket sometimes this may be marked line/tel then the hand held phone goes into the tel socket.this should make it a little clearer..line to wall socket ....and tel to hand telephone
