Screen problems on a sony 60" widescreen tv


if some area of the screen even with the color set at zero is green go to an unused video input and look---this model is well known for red green or blue discoloration of what appears to to be the screen but is actually the optical light engine which projects the picture into a mirror which projects it on the screen.

attached is a typical light engine, note the round lens to the left , that is the optical unit that projects the picture into the mirror at the rear of the set which puts it on the screen----the engine is the most expensive part in the set so, .........

The picture stayed on but there was a loud sound coming from the set


Could be the flyback transformer. The noise comes from the delamination of the layers in the transformer. It's an "old age" thing. You can try slathering it with cyanoacrylate (SuperGlue), but it probably needs to be replaced. Call your manufacturers service agent to estimate costs.

The best guess is likely convergence control IC's (2 of them STK392-110) and associated circuit problem.
It's acommon fault which causes the symptom you describe - get an estimate - usually between $200-300.

The screen is delaminating at the bottom. can the screen be replaced.


Yes the screen can be replaced but is very expensive.There is also a service bulletin on this chassis for replacing an overheat sensor behind the lamp assembly. The overheat message will appear on the screen.

I had to unplug my cable/tv last night and when I turned it on this morning I could not get the menu to display the cable accept on the menu screen. I went in to turn off the home theater and the cable...


Push the menu button and enter 1370 and push enter and the tv picture will appear on the screen. If it does not push the input button until the picture appears.
