LG RU-52SZ30 52" Rear Projection Television Logo
Posted on Sep 03, 2008

RT 52SZ30 Hi Yugten, Saw your reply from Feb regarding our tv turning off after 45 secs. We bought a new tv as we were quoted $1800 to fix this problem and now the new one is playing up, unbelievable!! Did you have the same problem with your tv ie works fine then turns off after 45 secs or so, you turn it back on and it will turn off again after 45 secs and so on! Will changing the lamp really fix this, as we took it to a repair shop and they quoted us $1,800 to repair this. They said the bulb and chassis needed to be changed. Maybe it was just the bulb and the guy was trying to rip us off, not sure, but need some help as now we have 2 tvs that are not working. Any help would be really appreciated.

I had this same problem and replace the projection bulb and it works fine now. Bulb is available on-line (google the brand and model number and you should get multiple places to buy it from. For the RU-52SZ30 model I have the replacement bulb part number was 6912V00006C. The bulb can be accessed from the back with a phillips screwdriver and a module holding the bulb can be removed pretty easily. The bulb is held in place by a wire and connected to two wires that need to be lossened with a screwdriver and small wrench (pretty obvious when you remove the module). For less than $200 this should fix the problem. I paid the local TV repair guy $100 to come out and show me. He was honest and said I would be better off getting the part over the internet and replacing it myself. So maybe you can save the $100+ and replace the bulb yourself. He did say that the bulbs typically last 2-3 years before needing replacement.

I have a 52" LG Prjection TV model number RU52SZ30 and it turns off after 45 seconds, also the blinking lights flickers on the lamp. What should I do first replace the lamp or reset the tv and how can I reset my TV. If a lamp problem where can I purchase one and how much and if I buy a lamp and I still have the same problem what do I do now.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply for my Toshiba 65H80 question...."as watching TV (Bears/Packers) and saw on the screen what I can only describe as a small "explosion"......or flash of light and then...

Hi. I believe you have been given some erroneous information. The items that are faulty are actually the capacitors. They are designed to last about 30 years if they are of good quality, however from 1998 until around June of 2005 Taiwan was flooding the market with cheap low quality capacitors, whiah are lasting about 1/3 as long. Thes are unfortunately not cheap to replace, as they are called low ESR capacitors. They can, counting the cost to have them replaced, be more expense than buying a brand new TV. If you really love your tv and just don't wish to depart with it yet, you can take it to Best Buy or Fry's, they both have specially trained techs to repair this exact situation.
