Question about Maytag Atlantis MDE6400AY Electric Dryer

Clunking maytag dryer

I can't get to the back of my dryer due to a casted broken leg.
I have a Maytag Atlantis electric dryer purchased at Best Buy and delivered on 16 October, 2003. I don't remember it being the highest-line model they carried. I think Best Buy may have had their own specific model numbers, but I'm not sure. The delivery service botched the vent connection badly and I had to revise it, but other than that it has worked well. We average about one heavy load a day.
About a week ago I noticed a cyclical clunking sound while the machine was running. I thought at first of a knot of tangled clothes banging around, but when I pulled the clothes out there were no tangles. I restarted it empty and the clunk was still there. It clunks at about the same point of each revolution of the drum.
As I said, I'm a bit incapacitated right now, but any suggestions will be pursued as soon as I can.

The machine is opened and inspected from the front
opening from the front there is no heavy lifting or moving of the dryer needed,
the usual causes of a ' cyclic clunk '
a worn spot on a drum felt. when that area reaches the bottom, the weight of the
drum causes a clunk.
a damaged belt that clunks when the tear hits the drum
a collapsing drum roller(replace in pairs)
each is easy to fix, cheap,

Need to know the correct 3 prong power supply cord to use for a Maytag Atlantis dryer.

Hi fredmcmur227...

There are many different pattern plugs and recepticals.
It is impossible to tell you which power cord to buy.
What you will need to do is find out what the receptical for the dryer looks like and match the receptical with the power plug your going to purchase.
I will also include a link to show you how to hook up a 3 prong wire power plug.
Please take time to rate me

Maytag atlantis dryer all the sudden will not turn on or make any noise.

I suspect the door safety switch is broken. If not check one, some dryers have two, high limits. These are safety switches that keep the tumbler from spinning when door opened, and prevent the dryer from overheating

Maytag Atlantis MDE7400AYW timer has been replaced but the dryer won't stop drying on it's own. What is the reason? I have the same problem... the timer on mine doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

The wire connections to the timer may have not been made correctly when it was replaced bypassing the OFF contact in the control circuit.  There should be a wiring diagram inside the front or back panel that you can check.

Clunking sound on dryer

Remove the front panel and check the blower wheel attached to the motor.
It may need replacing.
Possibly lint and debris blocking it.

Replacing Timer on Maytag Atlantis Dryer

Call a local appliance shop and ask about it. Maytag is pretty common and available. The timer will be about 75 dollars. It could be more depending on what all you have on it. It is pretty easy to replace once you get to it. Let me know how this turns out.

belt around the drum is broken. The light you see is the glow of the heating element. No air flow will cause heater to get red hot. Danger!

Maytag model

You really need a volt / ohm meter to check for Continuity & VoltsIts well worth the investment... $15.00 bucks give or take a few

I would check to see if you have 220v to back of dryer where the cord mounts to dryer,

If dryer is getting only 1 leg 110 volts instead of the 220 will it not heat.

Check themostates & heater for Continuity... Most models, Now have a.. Hi-limit fuses that need to be checked for Continuity they have to be replaced
