Connecting wireless router to laptop computer

I have connected a router to my desktop computer. It's a lynksys G wireless router. The problem I am having is that I am not able to connect to the internet on my laptop computer. I had a lynksys wireless router before this one, but I was able to connect to the internet. I had used the same settings as the last router. What should I do to get some kind of connection.

Thank you,
Celeste Harris i can't install my new wrt54g2 router.

Try changing the channel on the router. It would be better to isolate the problem first by trying to connect to other wireless networks on your laptop or having someone's laptop connect to your home wireless network.

How do i find network key for lynksys network

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wirelesssettings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also thewireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with theserouter's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicatewith your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down andput it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

In order for the wireless computer to connect to the router wirelessly, the router and the computer's wireless settings should be the same. Before trying to connect your wireless adapter to a Linksys wireless router, please know the following: SSID or Network Name, Wireless Security and/or Network Key.

Yes. 1. Disable the DHCP in the belkin router. 2. Take the cable from the LAN port of the Linksys router to the LAN port of the Belkin Router. 3. Dont touch anything else in any of the routers.

I have connected my desktop computer through ethernet with Lynksys wireless router G WRT54G. All other laptop computer works fine with wirless connection. They remain connected but my desktop computer...

If the wired connection keeps getting kicked there is a problem with a network setting on that computer seeing as the others are fine.

when you say ms utilities I presume "network seutup wizard"

If so the maybe you should copy the setting from one of your working machines by running the network wizard on that but not making any changes. when you get to the end it should offer to save the setting to a usb or floppy or even display them so you can write them down.

I would put them on a usb stick and plug that into your faulty machine and run the program that is on the usb stick which will then set you faulty machine up the same as the working ones.
