You need to use the IR emitter that came with the Bose V30 system. Bose employs a proprietary RF frequency remote which communicates to the hidden central control head. You plug in the emitter to the processor unit and run the emitters to the IR 'eye's' of the equipment you want to control. Once all this is done then and only then can you go through the remote codes to control a particular device. The Bose V30 has 2 IR emitters that come with the unit to control 2 devices. You can expand on that buy buying a IR emitter bridge that has several inputs for other devices.
Now when it comes to a DVR I am not so sure the Bose universal remote will work all the playback and FF and record control buttons and a DVD or VCR. I hear there is a new BOSE remote on the market that can do that but I have yet to see it in person or ask a sales rep about it. Sometimes they are non-tech's so its no help : (

SOURCE: I originally was working with
The codes on my directv dvr for a protron tv are 10178, 10003, 10031, 10052, and 10466. You may want to give them a try. Switch the remote to tv mode, hold down mute and select at the same time until green light flashes twice on the remote, and then enter the code. After the code is entered you can try the volume button to see if it works. If not repeat all of the above w/ the next code.
Also you can enter the menu of the directv receiver and see if there are any new codes for your set. To do this press menu, go to parental fav's & setup, go to system setup, go to remote control, and then go to program remote. Go to tv and you can find your brand and see if there are any new codes for it. Also, if there is another way to search the code, the directions will be found here.
If none of this works, then you may not be able to program your set. I have seen a few sets that were unable to be programed. You may also want to contact directv. Hope this helps.
