Solution #1 has nothing to do with the issue, the thread started asked how to scan a document to email via the mfc-9840cdw, not how to scan a email with antivirus.

Try opening up ports UDP:54925 on your Windows Firewall and try scanning from your computer instead of scanning directly from the printer to a email address. I tried scanning directly from the printer to send to a email and I get a error report of "poor line condition/out of memory" even though the line is fine.

Right click the email or folder or file or whatever and select "Scan with..." and it will automatically scan with the already installed antivirus program on you computer.

    1. Insert the document you want to scan into your
    scanner.

    2. Click Start , click All Programs, click Accessories ,
    and then click Scanner

    3. The Scanner Click Next .
    4. On the Choose Scanning Preferences page, click the
Picture type option that best matches the paper
you are scanning, and then click Next .

    5. On the Picture Name and Destination page, type a
name for your image, select JPG as the file
format, select the folder where you would like the
scanned image to be saved, and then click Next.

    6. Windows XP scans your document. On the Other
Options page, click Nothing. Then, click Next .

    7. On the Completing the Scanner page, you can view your scanned document by clicking the link shown. If you are not satisfied
with the results, click Back to return to the Choose
Scanning Preferences page, adjust your settings,
and try your scan again. Repeat until you are
satisfied. Then attach the scanned file to a composed message in which you want to sentd to another email address

I need to change the scanner function from a jpeg to Pdf mode. How do I do this? Thanks.

You need to open up Control Control Center.

Click on start, all programs, brother, and then control center 3. Once the program has openned, click on configuration and chose scan then file, you can change the file type to PDF from here and can actually make any other change you wish. Make the same changes in the device button tab.

Now everytime you scan to file it will be in PDF format

Part number brother 9840cdw fuser

Part# LU4103001
About $150
The service manual will be hard if not impossible to find. They only release those to factory authorized service centers. If you just need it for the fuser replacement instructions then often those will be either in the operators manual which is easy to find or the instructions will be in the box that the fuser comes in.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
