Question about Bissell Vacuums

1 Answer

My bissell 3595-2 vacuum cleaner started turning off the power automatically. Now I can not get it to turn on. This vacuum cleaner is still in real good condition, as I have hardly used it. Please advise what could be wrong. I was thinking maybe a loose connection with the on-off switc.

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

Most Bissell vacuums have Thermal Motor Protection which is a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filter needs washing or your machine is blocked. If your machine turns off on its own, unplug it and leave it for at least an hour to cool down. Remember to check the filter and look for blockages before re-starting. When the motor cools for approximately 30 minutes, the thermal protector automatically resets and cleaning may continue. If the cleaner will not turn on or the thermal protector continues to activate, your cleaner may need servicing.note: the thermal protector controls the main vacuum motor only, not the brush motor. If the thermal protector activates, the brush will continue to operate normally; however, there will be no suction.

I assume you mean the vacuum motor isn't running, could be the switch, cord or the motor, If you are able, I would start with the switch.

May not be your exact model but should be similar.

The Bissel vacuums include an internal thermal protector to protect it from overheating. When the thermal protector activates, the cleaner will stop running. Should this happen proceed as follows:

1. Turn the cleaner OFF and unplug from electrical outlet.

2. Check the Pre-Motor Filter and Post-Motor Filter for dirt accumulation.

3. Remove any clogs.

4. When the vacuum is unplugged and motor cools for approximately 30 minutes, the thermal protector should automatically resets and cleaning may continue.

5. If the thermal protector continues to activate after following the above steps, your cleaner may need servicing. Call Bissell Customer Service:

I have a bissel proheat and i can't figure out how to switch it from carpet cleaner to upholestery/stair cleaner. There's no button or switch that I can see and it doesn't kick in automatically.

On the most current model of the Pro heat 2X, there is a dial on the clear plastic section (located on top of the bladder section) and you can turn it from floor use to tool use.

Bissell 3595-2 Where is dirt going?

If the dirt isn't going into the dirt tank, then you have a clog either in the hose, or the dirt inlet by the brush roll. Clogged filters can cause suction problems also, they need to be cleaned often.
