Question about Intel Motherboard

Sony comp issue

I wanted to thank you for your help, it was helpful and i learned a lot
although the computer doesn't seem to be working, even after I've pressed F11, i think that the problem lies within norton, and i figure i'm going to get a recovery disk and redo the computer, even if most of my information is lost. I wanted to know, however, what were the free sites for the virus protection, so the in case the recovery works, i know not to put norton but something more reliable. But thanks again for all the information!!!

I'll be happy to help. Malwarebytes is very new and seemingly very reliable program that scans for malware, spyware, virii, and does one heck of a good job doing it. Does not have to be registered as long as you don't need the Protection Module which in reality very few people need and so as a result is free for use. It also is very fast comparatively speaking compared to most other malware scanners. Another is SuperAntiSpyware ( get the FREE version, it is all you need ), it's is a bit slower then MalwareBytes, but works well in conjunction with Malwarebytes. Suggest you install both, scan and clean if you suspect any activity that seems suspicious and even if you don't suspect any activity as many malwares lie dormant and unnoticed by most antivirus programs.
The antivirus of choice in my opinion is AVAST HOME FREE, not the AVG that so many people are tricked into downloading because it is advertised so heavily. I've been using Avast for over 4 years now with no complaints, but as with all antivirus products I have tried, malware will sneak around it. And so the need for a the Malware scanners above as once the Malware scanners engage and starting doing what they do so well, a good antivirus will jump right up and join in the fight against the malware/virus. It's a beauty to watch all three programs going after an infection.
Now after the first scan and clean, reboot the computer and do the scan and clean at least one more time for comparisons sake and to allow some confidence in the better operation of the computer. Don't be afraid to do this more then twice if you feel you need to as it shouldn't hurt anything on your computer and should leave you with a computer that almost runs like new asssuming your only problem was a malware/virual infection.
Avast Home Free initial download give you 60 days of free updates, but a FREE registration gives you the next year and can be re-registered each year for free. Like I said, been doing for 4 years plus now. Website will explain registration process, simple as pie and you will love that fact that you did. I don't work for Avast, I just appreciate good software.
Personally if I were you, I would run this software now before doing a restoration just to see what it might find. Restoration of a system especially a Sony system is a long tedious operation best avoided if at all possible. Make sure you only have ONE antivirus product on your computer at a time as having two will cause conflicts and huge performance drag on the system as both antivirus products would be trying to gain independant access to files for scanning. Not a pretty sight and a huge P.I.T.A.
If you have problems de-installing Norton, come back as I will give you sites that will address that issue with Norton.

Now back to ' computer not working '. It is very easy for me to get off on a tangent and end up missing the initial problem. Problem with being only one-eyed and somewhat overly-technical. Let's talk more about the original issue. You mentioned beeping twice and I told you that if were the case I would have to look up the Bios beep codes for your model and that required knowing for sure exactly which Bios producer was used in that computer.
Are you getting any displays whatsoever, even in white tesxt on black background ( Dos-like ), initial boot of the machine?????.
When I looked up Bios beep codes, I saw no mention of two beeps only, but I did see mention of two short beeps and a long beep being a video problem, so we need to exact when talking about bios beep codes. Not to much room for error here. A single short beep is normal and indicates proper posting of the bios during boot, i.e. hardware and firmware good.

Angelkat, do you know how to get into your Bios setup? Use F2 very early right after power-on. Click it a couple of times and the system should go into the Bios setup routine. You will probably have to do this possibly several times to get the hang of how to do it. When in the Bios setup, hit F9 ( sets Bios to computer factory defaults ), then F10 ( saves the Bios configuration ), then Exit which forces you to save again, just say Yes and you will exit and hopefully the computer will boot normally and without incident.
Sometimes this will fix a memory mis-configuration due to memory being added to the system. However if you have a true hardware issue with memory, video, or any other component, it will not do any good. However doing this might lead to a better idea of exactly what is wrong as different bios beeps might be indicated. Listen for short beeps and long beeps, and remember one short beep is normal meaning you should get a display in a matter of two to ten seconds at most.

Marvelous description, but you can only fit parts that have the same socket on them. As long as you remember that, you will be okay. For CPU and motherboard information (compatibility) try CPU upgrade website and for CPU spec and sockets try CPU world (both run by the same people) very well designed sites and informative. The other stuff comes with experience, although you could try a book such as computers for dummies or buy a magazine such as Micro mart (weekly) as it reviews new and old kit and has a very good help section.

Can an AMD K6 with 3D now be upgraded if so what motherboard would I need Also will I be able to use wifi

Ken,

I don't really like answering these types of questions, because you have a much older computer. Based on the AMD-K6 3D, it maybe time to retire it. The fastest chip is 500MHz, and that is not nearly enough to handle today's media rich web content, software, or games. In fact many smart phones have more processing power.

An upgrade really would not justify the time and effort involved.

Best of luck whichever way you decide to go.

Well this usually happens! Its weird but I have no more theory, with a new Power Supply will not work, believe or not sometimes old computers [or in this case motherboard] will not even boot the BIOS with a different power supply than the one that the motherboard has always used, sounds weird but if you try it, you will see that will boot like if nothing happened before... give it a try and tell me how it goes... Best regards and LUCK!!! Luis

I have a Sony PC with a 24 inch screen. My CD/DVD slot is on the right side. After downloading a cd, I couldn't eject it. I even tried going to my computer, going to the driver and pressing eject,...

A lot of times on a CD Drive there is a small hole near the eject button. If you push the end of a paperclip or needle or toothpick into this hole usually the drive will open. If that doesn't open it, you may have to take apart the computer and cd drive to get the cd out.

Im seeing F F on the mother board display on boot up not booting wat does that mean

Check to make sure that the BIOS jumper is in the correct position (1-2), if it's even present. If that doesn't work, try clearing the BIOS (although if the jumper was set to 2-3 to begin with, then that will do absolutely nothing). If that doesn't work, try reseating the CPU, and if that doesn't work, then check for any shorts, there might be some metal shavings on some jumpers or what not, or perhaps the brass standoffs might not be on correctly. Those are all the ideas that I have.

I hope this helps!

Start up problem

Try to use another keayboard, if that dosent work, try to do a full >CMOS reset.
error 25 is a weird 1 as although it's supposed to relate to gfx it's also been seen to be apparently associated with faulty IDE cables/drives & even keyboards

Good luck to you

Bios problem, i guess

Hello,
Your problem is very common with old computer.
The reason might be humidity or dust.
Please consider taking your m/b out of the case and the rest of the components (like video card and memory simms) and with a brush dipped in alcohol clean the whole m/b everywhere you can (both sides) scrub it hard especially places you see dust or rust.
I use it all the time although I have to say you need to do it at your own risk.
Good luck and thank you for using agadycom.
