Question about Seagate FreeAgent Pro - 500GB, 7200 RPM, USB 2.0, eSATA, External 500 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Seagate Freeagent 500Gb External Hard-drive.

One minute the drive has a power light o9n the next _ nothing. I tried different power sources but still nothing. Seagate will replace my drive but that is on exchange. I really do not want to give them my precious data. I would like to retrieve the data by running the drives through a caddie but am not sure how to do this without voiding warranty.. can you suggest some solutions.

Does this mean that I should take the Case apart and remove the drive or is there a special cable that I should purchase so that I can connect it as a slave to another harddisk?

Seagate 500GB FREEAGENT DESKTOP 7200RPM EXTERNAL USB 20 HARD DRIVE 16MB it just stoped working in the middle of the movie, complete blackout, tryed conect to another PC nothing came up, what it could be...

Try this:

1. Turn off the power supply to the hard drive.
2. Turn off your PC/laptop.
3. Connect the hard drive to the PC/laptop.
4. Turn on both devices.

It worked with mine.

You could also try installing Seagate Manager which can check for errors on the drive.

Seagate External Hard Drive powers down after being idle.

If you load the Free Agent Software, there is a utility for setting the power saving. You can set it to a number of different times including never. The default is 15 minutes. I think this is what you are experiencing. The settings are in the Utilities tab.
