I have a 1999 VW Beetle. It won't start or turn over. We found a 15 amp blown fuse and have replaced it. It will then start up but then I had to replace it and the whole cycle starts over. Any advice on what is causing it to blow? Now, a day later, it won't work when the fuse is replaced... I am just trying to get it started to get it a VW shop but would appreciate any advice you can offer.
unfortunately.... we have no diagram of the fuse box! Ugh! We have the owners manual that tells us to look on the panel (which the diagram has been removed) and the Chilton's book that says the same thing. So I have looked all over the internet for a diagram of the fuse box with no luck. When I count them out, it is number 27. The next one over is also a 15 amp which I guess could be 28. We counted from top to left-right. Thank you Barry for responding, I appreciate it.unfortunately.... we have no diagram of the fuse box! Ugh! Old new beetle VW harness has contact resistance problems(vibration of wires) and needs to be recrimped the long wires(vibration can be stopped by silicone rubber anchoring). Cold weather make battery voltages low and needs recharged with handbrake on(headlamps off) 10 minutes warming engine up the whole winter.
Did you check the coolant level? if your low on coolant the sensor for the fans won't work, also could be a bad fan motor or just a fuse, if you continue to over heat the car you can do a lot of damage to the engine, blown head gasket, and the VW's are expensive to repair, take it to a good shop and have them check it out.
My mother is having the same problem with her 2005 vw beetle too ... i looked in the fuse box, and i think i found the fuse that has blown ... i dont know about yours .. but hers would not even attempt to put the top down at all ... so i figured it had to be a blown fuse... ill be replacing it tomorrow if it is that ill let you know .. i cant remember the exact spot off hand, but i know it was a 25 amp yellowish fuse
