I have done a hard reset on my axim last night, because the tech. guy was convinced that it would solve the d-pad problem that I had with the unit... Well to make a long story short, after the hard reset I lost all data, and I put the axim in the cradle and it sync-ed but I had to create a new name for it, and it never brough the software that I had originally installed on the unit back... is that common and everytime we'll do a hard reset on it, will we have to re-install all the software and assing a new name to the unit, if so than it is ridiculous!!!
-Also, has anyone come across a way to sync the axim with outlook express, I like it far better than outlook!???
-And are your axims staying on even though in the power settings you have assigned them to shut down while powered externally after so many minutes??? Mine is set to shut off after 3 and its been now 40 and its still on!!!
I have done a lot of hard resets (of non-Axim products) lately, and have found you can get your devices name as well as software back rather quickly. After the hard reset, you want to delete the partnership in activesync. Then if you rename (or leave) the devices name, it will "let you" continue to use that name. Also, Add/Remove programs in ActiveSync should still have all the programs you installed from the desktop listed in it. For the most part, just check which you want to install, click OK, and they will all be installed at once. You should also be able to resync all your contact data from Outlook again without problem.
You can also use Data Backup to restore your axim to the settings that preceded the hard reset. I recommend backing up daily to a storage card. To do this, pda must be in charger:
Press Start choose data back up choose back up all data (you can also just back up pim data) select storage card name the back up file when prompted hit okay
That will back everything up for you. To restore, press start, choose restore, and specify which backup file you want to restore. (You can press Start and Explore if you aren't sure-- the files will be listed.)
Through ActiveSync on your PC you can do a backup of your Axim to your PC. If you do a complete backup, then you should be able to use ActiveSync to restore your system back to the way it was. This is not an automatic, or default setting for ActiveSync, but it is feature that is available.

my dell Axim X3 came with a cd that included outlook 2002 and activesync 3.7. I bought a new computer and tried to install it but it is not working. Should I download activesync from MS and if so, which one?
