my dirt dog does the same thing -- runs in reverse, eventually bumps forward a few times but doesn't go anywhere, than it starts back circling in reverse. totally useless now ,but it was awesome when it worked.

I had the same back-up, turn, move forward a couple inches, backup-up, etc. problem. Try cleaning/cutting the hair, etc. out from around the brushes, as well as around the ends of the brushes. Also, try a Q-tip to clean out the four pair of sensors (on my Roomba there are four pairs of little lenses under the bottom of the bumper) that (apparently) can cause the Roomba to think it is going over a cliff so it backs up. I didn't have a can of compressed air, so I turned it over on the grass and went after it with a leaf blower..up close. Lots of dust came out and it has worked fine since.

SOURCE: my roomba starts going backwards

I turned my shop vac onto "blow" and blasted my roomba with this problem. It worked!!! I had already cleaned it thoroughly, but it needed to be blown out. My only regret is that I did it in my shop, rather than outside. It was pretty dusty.

Thanks again for the tip. Saved me $100+

SOURCE: Dont move forward.

Blow out the unit with compressed air, particularly around the wheels and under the bumper. Tap the bumper with your hand.

If your Roomba stops and beeps at you, count the beeps AFTER the initial "uh-oh" tone. Then call customer support (1-877-855-8593) for assistance.

Good luck.

SOURCE: my roomba won't go forward it just spins in a

You will need to take the top off to clear those wheels.
This happens a lot when cleaning new carpet. The fuzz jams the wheel switch, and dosey do you go.

Roomba going in circles

Roomba going in circles. Called irobot and if reseting it (by taking out the battery, unplugging it from the charger, and holding down the power button for 30 seconds), didn't work, turn the roomba over, take a compressor and blow air into the front. Maybe a shop vac would also work. We cleaned out the whole thing while we were at it. And now it works just fine. The tech person at irobot was very helpful.

My roomba 530 runs in a circle and does not move forward. After 2 minutes it stops with 11 beeps and a flashing red light to the left of the power button. It has no clicking noise. Does anyone know what is...

Hey'
This means Roomba is not registering obstacles. Roomba may be stuck in one place.
Roomba may be in extremely large room, try setting up virtual walls to create smaller area.
If Roomba is not in a large room, tap Roomba's bumper to confirm it is properly working.

Hope this helps

I have the irobot roomba and the battery does not hardly hold a charge and now it won't go forward just backwards and around

The Roomba has a rechargable Battery. The Roomba battery like any battery will eventually ware out after so many charges and discharges. Mine lasted about three years and then is would hardly hold a charge. I purchased a new battery and then it worked fine after that.

As for not going forward. That is usually due to a dirty bumper sensor. You have to take the Roomba apart for cleaning that. You can take it to Sears and they will do it for you.

My Roomba will not move forward. It will try and spin itself and then try to move forward but then spin itself again until it stops and beeps. I tried cleaning the whole unit but it still is unable move...

Hey
is it 5xx Roomba ? is it 9 beep that it sounds ?

Please look for other same problem posted here ;-)
You are probably facing a bumper sensor issue.
Try to clean the bumper first and if this goes on, either call iRobot service, or
take a look at this page for the step by step 9 beep fix.
Have fun

Backs up spins in circles, then red light flashes and beeps

Sounds like either the battery is bad or not being charged properly with subsequent loss of programming.

Running backwards in circles.

If your Roomba's speaker isn't working, you need a new Roomba regardless. Give a call to customer support (877-855-8593) and they'll help you out.

Roomba going backwards

I had the same kind of problem with my model 400 today...after starting it and having it go in a circle for 30 seconds or so it would finally run into something and then back up a few inches, turn, then go forward a few inches, then back up a few inches, turn, then go forward a few inches, etc., etc.. I tried cleaning off the four pairs of sensors under the bumper and blowing out various things underneath (by mouth since I didn't have any canned compressed air). It didn't really help. It then occurred to me that I had a leaf blower! I put the Roomba upside down on the grass, put the leaf blower on high, and blew at it from all directions and up close. More dust came out than I thought would. It has been running normally now for the last 45 minutes.
