Question about HP iPAQ HX4700 Pocket PC

IPaq hx4700 crashed-can I recover data?

My iPaq hx4700 overheated today and did a hard reboot which caused it to wipe everything off its memory that I had installed. I can restore most of my stuff with Activesync, but I collected data today that was stored in the system's memory that I would REALLY like to recover. Any chance I can do that?

Anything left in the system memory at the time of a hard rest is gone. The only thing that returns is the files from the factory. Sorry.

Hx4700 wont work after failed update on ROM v1.10

Try hard reset: pressing and holding the calendar and iTask buttons and doing a soft reset for 2 seconds.

Hard resetting a WM 5 HX 4700 is to press and hold the Contacts and Mail buttons and then doing a soft reset. The boot screen will popup with a message “To perform a clean reset, which will clear all data in memory, press the [Calendar] button”

If that fails, try upgrading to wm 6 or wm 6.1 then downgrading afterwards.

I've upgraded from wm2003SE to wm6.1 alkor rc2.2 rom.

You need to sync the old one with your PC, then simply set up a new partnership with your new Ipaq and sync it with that same PC.

Date & Time of calendar

Sounds like your PC is not set to adjust for daylight savings.... the ipaq automatically adjusts for daylight savings but the PC does not. On your PC double click on clock, click on Time Zone tab and then on that screen you will see the box that needs to be checked. also check that both PC and IPAQ are set to same time-zones.

Data erased from iPAQ hx4700

If an ipaq loses power , then all data in RAM is lost. It's important to keep it charged. It's also important to do regular backups..... so there are two backup options - one is thru Activesync which will backup to your PC and one is the IPAQ's own backup program which will backup to the IPAQ FILE STORE (area in ROM) or a SD card. I do the Activesync backup every time I sync and then the IPAQ backup about once a week or immediately before a system change. Activesync backup ------------------------ Here is a guide which best explains it this guide suggests doing a full backup, but it's fine to do an incremental backup each sync - this means that only changes will be added to your backup and makes the whole process much quicker. IPAQ Backup ----------------- So under Programs is a program called IPAQ Backup. The default location is IPAQ FILE STORE which is an area in ROM and is not lost thru a power failure nor hard reset. You may also choos to backup to a SD card - a full backup will need roughly 20MB. So in this backup procedure, if you click on 'Browse' you can choose a SD card. A restore can then be performed from the IPAQ FILE STORE or SD card (depending on which location you chose) and so if you are away from your PC, this will be no problem. A restore this way , rather than thru Activesync is also much quicker, so if you have a choice go this route.
