Hotpoint side by side, freezer cold and frosty. Frig side not cold??

Signs of a defrost problem. Inside the fresh food section and behind the light cover you should see a small opening that leads to the defrost timer. Turn timer clockwise slowly until compressor and fans stop running. Leave everything in this position with fan and compressor not running for up to 30 minutes. Defrost should be taking place during this time inside and behind freezer rear wall.

Listen for signs of crackling or hissing coming from freezer. If after 30 minutes the defrost timer does not restart compressor and fans on its own then again slowly turn timer clockwise until they do start. If you need to do this you will need to replace the timer=> WR9X489 Defrost Timer If the timer is not the problem then the next two parts just may be the problem. The=> WR51X443 Defrost Heater Assembly that comes with a defrost thermostat as a kit. Let me know how you do with the defrost timer, Thanks, Sea Breeze

I have a whirlpool GT22DKXGW00 (manuf. 1998) top freezer refrig. After a blackout out 3 days now the compressor will not come on, only the lights. Is there a blown "board" that can be replaced?

If only the lights are on and you hear no fans running it is possible that the defrost timer has failed while the timer was in defrost. I want you to try turning the timer clockwise slowly until you hear fans and compressor restart. If this works simply replace the defrost timer. I you do not already have Adobe Reader on your computer Click Here=> Get Adobe Acrobat Reader Then click here=> GT22DKXGW00_Repair_Parts_List On page 3 of your Parts List PDF you will see the location 4 That is your defrost timer and most times can be reached by pulling a plastic plug from the bottom of your control panel inside fresh food compartment above the top shelf. Place a flathead screwdriver in opening and turn clockwise slowly. If you are unable to locate the opening you will need to lower the control panel and then carefully turn timer over and turn clockwise. The timer part number is 2193084 Click Here=> 2193084 Defrost Timer
sea_breeze_277.jpg

About the only other reason that the lights are on and you hear no fans or compressor running will be a defective thermostat part number=> 2197536 Thermostat Assembly but this is not likely. Try the above and let me know if the defrost timer works when turned. If not I will need to move on down to compressor start components. But because you said only lights are on that points to defrost timer being stuck into defrost and will need to be replaced if this is the case. I will be here to answer question if you need more answers. If this solution helps please rate this post, Thank You, Sea Breeze

Freezer quit working. The power is on. But no sound of compressor.

At the top on the control box , there is a hole about 1/2 inch in diameter . Find this hole and use a flat head screwdrive to insert and turn slightly . This is the defrost timer . The refrig could be stuck in defrost . If turning slightly and refrig starts , replace the defrost timer . If doesn't start , TAP on the thermostat knob and see if refrig starts . If so , replace the thermostat .

What turns on the evaporator fan? I have a 5 year old GE profile bottom freezer fridge. I have discovered that the defrost timer is faulty. The defrost heater works and the evaporator coils frost up ok...

The main control board is probably the problem . Part number WR55X10656 . This board controls the operation of the fan motors and everything else on the refrig . This is also the " defrost timer " . However , the coils frosting up , is probably because the fan motor is not pulling air across them . Not because of a faulty " defrost timer " . This board is located on the back of the refrig , behind an 8"X10" panel . Usually a resistor burns out relating to the fan motor operation . Cannot replace the resistor , only the board .

Our refrig.& freezer stoped working. i cleaned the coils and vacumed undernead. it worked all night and also made ice but it stoped working again this morning. so i pulled the back of and checked the...

Make sure the fan near the compressor is running and that the coils next to it are warm. If that's not the poblem
Then Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM). If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air
check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

I have a 10 yr old Maytag side-by-side. Came home the other night and the Freezer was at 40F. What is the most likely problem

to start: make sure refrig is turned on and running.
1.do you hear the fan blowing inside the frzr compartment?
2.pull refrig out and listen for compressor running. is compressor running/humming away or are you hearing a humming sound followed by a clicking sound?if you hearing a clicking sound than mostly
is your relay on the compressor that went out. look for a smal device on the side of compressor w/two or three wires. part# 12002794 $32.00

also make sure there's no frost build on frzr rear wall.that's another problem

Our 4 year old GE side by side frig suddenly warmed to 64 degrees. Freezer stopped freezing and is at 43. Motor is running.

Really need to know what motor(s) are running (compressor, evap fan inside freezer compartment, condenser fan under fridge)?? Of course, check your temperature (thermostat) settings. Side-by-sides usually have 2 of them. They should be labled for refridgerator and freezer. The freezer control usually only opens a baffle from the freezer compartment to the refridge compartment. The refrigerator temp control is the one that controls the compressor on-off cycles and the temp of refrig compartment (this keeps the refrig compartment from freezing the milk and cokes) If the freezer control/baffle is set too far open, this will cause the refrig temp control to shut off too soon for the freezer temp to get low enough. These controls can get bumped out of the correct setting accidently from time to time.
To check the following, the fridge has to be running, or in a condition where it "should be" running: If compressor is running (condenser fan should be too), check if evaporator fan (inside freezer) is running. Open (freezer) door and hold door light switch in when you check evaporator fan operation (some fans stop when door is open) If it is not running you may have a bad evaporator fan motor. It could also be a bad defrost timer, causing the evaporator (also inside back of freezer) to ice-up. This blocks the air flow over evap. Also, there is a defrost terminator switch on the evaporator coil that stops the defrost cycle when coil is clear of ice/frost (but timer hasn't ended defrost cycle). If it is defective, that could also keep the fridge from going into the defrost cycle, or taking it out too soon. If it is the timer, change the defrost terminator as well. Depending on how handy you are, you may be able to check/change any of these parts yourself. If you don't know much about elecrical stuff, you should leave it to a repair tech. Hope this helps.

Fan running but neither refrig or freezer is getting cold.

Your refrigerator may be stuck in defrost cycle. I know it has a defrost timer part number 215846602 Most times they are located inside the fresh food compartment behind the control panel. Sometimes below fridge and behind kick plate. The thermostat could be defective also. You can check that by unplugging the refrigerator remove cover and checking continuity between the two male connections located on the rear side of thermostat control turned as cold as you can turn it. Or you can join the two wires together and plug refrigerator back in to see if compressor comes on. When you find the defrost time turn clockwise slowly until the refrigerator starts. If these don't work let me know and we will do some more test. Sea Breeze

Defrost not cycling

Hi. the Defrost timer assembly has failed. simply replacing this timer will fix the defrosting issue.

Concerning the refrigerators cold control. this is caused by a malfunctioning Temperature control assembly. simply replacing this device will fix the erratic cold control.

Now, i would inspect the compressor for its operational value before purchasing a temperature control assembly. If the compressor isn't cycling on and off and if it is making a very loud noise or pinging, this will confirm compressor failure. you will have to replace the compressor in this case.

If the compressor is coming on in a cycle and powering off without any abnormal noises, this will confirm temperature control failure. replace the temp control assembly in this case.

I will post the parts need below so that you may order the affected parts on line if you choose.

Temperature control assembly.
Defrost timer module.

Please rate and god bless:)

Refrig/freezer just quite working?

The defrost timer is located in the control panel in the fresh food section.
Look up under the panel and see a opening slightly smaller than a dime.
Put the blade of a butter knife in there and turn clockwise a quarter turn.
If the fridge starts working, replace the defrost timer.
