Question about Microsoft Computers & Internet

1 Answer

We are running Microsoft XP Home Edition and have been keeping it up-to-date using Microsoft's automatic updates. We got an update with the Microsoft logo that was not automatic. When it was applied, Windows would no longer come up except in Safe Mode.

I have windows home edition service pack 1 and i need to update my browser? i keep getting debug errors

You will need to update XP to Service Pack 3. Just Google "XP Service Pack 3" and follow instructions, OR go to - this will also update your browser to Internet Explorer 8.

You can install Firefox with no special updates, but it would be better to update to SP3 anyway.

Can not update windows.

Try Dial-a-fix. Best solution to Windows Update problems I've found.

The interface is a little cryptic, but if you read the Wiki you can be up and running pretty quick. Works great.

Downloaded updates, how to keep them?

Unfortunately you canno do what you say. However, like most IT tasks there is a way around it! Try the following solution:
  • Autopatcher is a program you can download which contains all the patches on a CD or DVD.
  • It will automatically select the updates for your system, be it Vista, 2000 or XP.
  • It is a free download, and updates when new Windows updates are avialable when you run the Autopatcher program.
  • It can be used for updating computers without an Internet connection.
  • Its free!

Where I will find a site to download the Microsoft WindowsXP Professional Edition Service Pack1 to install on the CD

If you are not set up to recieve automatic updates from microsoft you should change your settings to download these automatically and keep these up to date. To do this go to the start button, go to control panel, and then to security center. Click on automatic updates and follow the prompts. To get all of the latest updates go to the start button, go to all programs, point to and left click on windows update. This will start the process of updating your system. After some updates your system will need to be restarted, some do not require a restart. You have to repeat the windows update process a few times in order to recieve all of the latest updates.
