Question about HP iPAQ HX4700 Pocket PC

1 Answer

Ipaq hx4700 dead :(

Hi I cannot turn my hx4700 on :( When I make a soft reset, the hp screen flashes (without backlight) twice for 1-2 seconds, but then the screen is dead again. When I put the Ipaq in the cradle, my PC recognizes it (makes a sound) but Activesync is not automaticly connecting and a search in Activesync cannot find the Ipaq at all. It seems that the battery is charging when the Ipaq is in the cradle (the amber light first flashes, then it is constant on). Please help - what can I do? Is HP repair the only option?

I would try a hard reset before you resign yourself to HP repair.

Did you try to flash the BIOS/firmware of your device?

1.) Go to the Master Index of BIOS, FIRMWARE, & DRIVER Updates,
2.) Select the appropriate hyperlink for your model. (in your case it's here
3.) Download the most recent BIOS version SoftPAQ (SP) for your Model of iPAQ.
4.) Press the POWER + iTASK + CONTACTS + RESET buttons at the same time so as to enter the FLASH Mode
5.) Make sure your USB connection to the Cradle is hooked-up.
6.) Place your iPAQ in the USB Cradle.
7.) Stop the MS ActiveSync session on your HOST PC: CTRL-ALT-DELETE > TASK MANAGER > PROCESSES.
8.) Hilight WESCOMM.EXE and select "End Process" button.
9.) Run the file you downloaded from HP in step 3.
10.) The iPAQ should now begin Flashing the iPAQ's ROM BIOS

Hx4700 wont work after failed update on ROM v1.10

Try hard reset: pressing and holding the calendar and iTask buttons and doing a soft reset for 2 seconds.

Hard resetting a WM 5 HX 4700 is to press and hold the Contacts and Mail buttons and then doing a soft reset. The boot screen will popup with a message “To perform a clean reset, which will clear all data in memory, press the [Calendar] button”

If that fails, try upgrading to wm 6 or wm 6.1 then downgrading afterwards.

I've upgraded from wm2003SE to wm6.1 alkor rc2.2 rom.
