Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P200 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Videos Don't Download Completely

When I transfer a video from my camera onto my PC I only get the first seconds of the video, although I do hear sound for quite a while. I have tried this with long videos (3-5min) and with a 1 min video, with the same results. Also, I tried with lots of action (memory hog) and very little action. Same results. Help!

Oh, and one more clue, I can play back the entire video on the camera itself. So, I know that I have actually been recording. Thanks!

Thanks, Bubbabear64. Didn't fix the problem, but suggests a workaround. The camera records in MPEG and the video will still not play in the DIVX player. But if I convert the MPEG into DIVX format I can play the entire video. So now at least I know all the data has been transfered from the camera to the PC. Now I just need to find a way to successfully convert DIVX into a playable MPEG format (my objective is to upload this clip to YouTube).

I'm still open to suggestions for a true fix on this, if anyone out there has more ideas.

Wahoo! Fixed it! Turned out to be a PC-side problem. Bubbabear64 put me on the scent that it might have to do with my MPEG version. Eventually figured out that my Windows Movie Maker was filtering MPEG types (Tools | Options | Compatibility: uncheck all options). Now I can play the MPEG video everywhere on my PC. And have confirmed that I can record with either the 640Fine or 640Standard camera options and still play the videos. Thanks, all, for helping on this.

PS: Bubbabear64: that DIVX conversion sure does up the video quality, doesn't it? Also discovered you can upload the DIVX file format directly to YouTube.

I've had this problem before. I don't know what format Sony records their movies in but it's probably MPEG4 or Divx.

Goto to and download the Dvix Codec and player. See it that solves that problem.

Do you have a MPEG 2 decoder?

Oh yeah. It's a very high quality format to use on You Tube.

    Supports wide screen too.

Welcome to Fixya.

Some camera with recorder does'nt have a sound when you try to watch your video on the camera it self, however when you try to download it or transfer it to your computer you will hear the sound of your recording.

I have a sony digital camera with the same issue, but when i try to transfer it to my computer, I can now hear the sounds.

If you want you can try to transfer it first to your computer and check it.

I hope this information will give back the interest of your son for his digital camera.

If you were uploading the pics to a program on your computer, it may not be capable of video transfer, only still jpegs. You could use a card reader to download the videos to a folder you create on your desktop. From there, you could try to play them with another program on your computer. You could also download a free copy of Quicktime from to play the videos. typrice_25.jpg

I have been unable to view videos taken on my camera from the start , do I need a specific download or attachment ? Kodak EasyShare C530

No download is required to view videos on your camera.
It could be caused by a fault in the firmware however unfortunantly there is no update available online.

Please note:
There is no volume button since this camera has a microphone, but no speaker.
You can only hear the sound when you transfer the file to a TV or computer.

Why is there no sound when I play my videos back on my camera and when I import them onto my computer. I cant hear anything

This camera does not have a Mic - so it does not have capability to record or playback sound. It will record video but it will be completely mute on playback.

Thanks for using FixYa.

From the manual:
"To hear audio, transfer the video to your computer."

The camera doesn't play the audio, though it records it. You need to transfer the video to a computer in order to hear it.
