Question about Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor goes black after being on for about 20 minutes

I am pretty sure this is a thermal problem with one of the components on the PCB but I am not sure if it can be fixed or not. Dell does not want to deal with it because I bought it from a 3rd party who removed the Dell ID tag.

What do you think?

I have the same problem and the monitor is only a few months old. This is horrible. It makes the monitor unusable. I am not inclined to get another Dell Monitor.

This might be related to your system power options, if your monitor turns off after sometime (20 mins in this case) the best way to find out if this is caused due to a thermal reason - is to see if the monitor can work immediately after it turns off (coz, for thermal shutdowns it needs time to cool down before it works again)

Hi, According to your problem, Check the adjust switches and readjust the monitor first. You have to repair the PCB of the monitor. Better if you can replace the PCB of the monitor.

While i am on my computer my hp w1907 monitor goes black. if i shut the monitor off and wait a few minutes it will come back on but then it only stays on for a couple minutes and goes black again.

This sounds like a power board problem. Could be failing power capacitors, which are allowing the charge to leak ( stripping the screen, not recommended) will show bulging or leaking capacitors). Or it could be an issue with the PCB. The fact it will restart once it has "cooled down" points to this.

I'm assuming you have tried the monitor on a different computer, just to eliminate the graphics card (unlikely but worth a go)

Solution..get it checked by a qualified TV repairman, it may a be a simple fix.

My GNR F173 makes a squeky noise when switched on and the screen goes black. After switching on again (several times) it works fine. Can this be fixed? Will it be worth the cost if it can?

gwyn1william, Monitor printed circuit components are all "working" !!!! That's good!! You need to see video clips at YOUTUBE!!! Learn how to do soldering. Then use very large magnifying glass or use inspection grade microscope (4x to 20x) to find the 1 maybe 2 "hairline fractured, thermally intermittant" solder connection of the leads of the devices (active or passive) which are causing this condition and will need to be resoldered. ($20 or less DIY) ($40 to $80 contracting out the work) Then and only then return to fixya and rate this as to it's usefulness to you in solving monitor problem. 12fixlouie

Envision G175 monitor goes on then goes black

This could be one of three issues:
1) Monitor is bad
2) cable is bad
3) video card is bad.

Try to plug the monitor into another computer or laptop and see if your current setup still shows black. If it now works, I'm pretty sure that it's your video card, seeing the other 2 components work fine for another computer. If it still doesn't work, then replace the cable and try again with the other computer. If the new cable doesn't fix the issue, then I think that it's monitor that's simply gone bad.
If it's the video card, you're going to have to open up the PC and replace and reinstall a new one. (do a Google search for help on this, but here's one link: http://www.directron.com/howtovideo.html) The install is easy, but if you've never done it before I'd recommend help from your local computer geek (someone from work?) or a computer place such as Geek Squad (located in Best Buy).

If this has helped, please give me the appropriate thumbs up! Thanks, and good luck!

FujitsuSiemens TFT goes out after 2 seconds

josexcruz, While you were busy replacing all the electrolytic filter capacitors did you think to closely examine all the other "LEADS" of the surface mount and through-hole components to make sure they ALL look bright and "mirror finished" ??? Try looking for solder joints that have thinner than hair circular thermal fractures around the solderd leads. May need inspection microscope (10x 15x) to see them. Also check the semiconductors package (body) for cracks or swelling due to thermal overstress. Let me know what you find!!! 12fixlouie

HP W1907 Monitor goes black after resolution change

This is normal, but it should only take less than a minute for your computer to readjust, make sure all your graphic card drivers are updated, for that may be a factor.

Going Black

Sounds thermal runaway. A component is getting too hot and failing. It will cool down and then work for a bit. Pull the covers to access all the boards and get a can of freeze it spray. You can identify the suspect parts with that.
