Question about GE Dishwashers

1 Answer

I have a GE roll around dishwasher, Model GSC3200Z03BL. It worked one night, did not work the next. After hooking intake/discharge hose to faucet and turning to start, no water is pumped in. Only a humming noise much like something is stuck preventing pump from allowing water in. What to do? Appreciate the assist.

First off.. the pump does not let water in.. it takes water from your sink faucette via the hose and allows it to enter the DW via an inlet electrically operated valve. If that valve is not commanded by the control system to open, then no water will enter the DW and a wash cycle will not start. Please find the informaton shown below that decribes some reasons why your DW may not be filling with water. You should go thru this series of checks to make sure you've set up the DW correctly aqnd it is not in mid cycle. If by chance you are setting it up correctly and are not in mid cycle then you may have a hardware problem with the system. I would be happy to assist you if it comes to that but I am hoping that the information below will get you started,...

Copied directly from the GE website for your refererence..

Dishwasher - No Water Fill

Often the cause of a dishwasher not filling at the start of its cycle is not electrical or mechanical. Often times you may be starting your dishwasher model incorrectly which results in the machine skipping its first water fill period.

There are presently three different types of starting procedures being used:

  1. Pushbutton type. This system is found on all POTSCRUBBER models.
  2. "Turn-to-start" timer type. After latching the dishwasher door, you turn the timer dial until you hear a click. By advancing the timer dial beyond that point, its possible that the first water fill would be skipped. The first fill is necessary for automatic pre-rinsing of the dishes.

View a short video about turn-to-start timers:
    Play Video
  3. The most common type is a "push-to-start" timer dial. All that is required to initiate the cycle is to push in on the timer dial. It is NOT necessary to turn the dial.
If you are unsure as to the starting procedure used by your model please consult the Owner's Manual. Download a free copy of the Owner's Manual and/or Installation Instructions.

Hope this gets you going..

How do I find and check the drain hose on my GE PDW8480 dishwasher?

The drain hose normally goes to the air gap located next to the sink faucet if it doesn't have that make sure the hose is higher in the middle than it is where it drains to the garbage disposal the dirty water is coming from ur sink from when u wash dishes then it goes back to the dishwasher you need to elevate the drain hose

WE JUST BOUGHT A NEW DISHWASHER DU1345XTVB HOOKED EVERYTHING UP CORRECTLY AND RAN A QUICK CYCLE THRU IT AND WHEN IT WAS DONE THERE WAS STILL WATER IN THE BOTTOM. THIS WAS TO REPLACE THE OLD DISHWASHER SO...

Make sure the garbage disposal is working, if it is not then it will not allow
the dishwasher to drain. Also make sure there is not blockage in the intake port on
the disposal where the hose connects itself. If you installed a new disposal, there
is a knockout that must be struck out inside the connection port.

If you have an "air gap" installed (next to the faucet which looks like
a small cup upside down, it may be gunked up, remove and clean, or replace it)

If the hose came inside the dishwasher did you install it on the proper port on the
dishwasher pump, many have two and one is blocked off. (it is unlikely but depending
on the amount of water and the type of subflooring under the machine, it could have
pumped out unnoticed and drained through a wiring hole).
Hope this is helpful

Will not drain.

Elimination Of Problems From Most To Least Likely:

I know you said the drain's not blocked, but i feel obligated to mention it anyways ;)

1. Connection from discharge hose to drain pipe is blocked/corroded.
a) Loosen the gear clamp (5/16" Nut Driver/Phillips/Standard) holding the discharge hose to the barbed drain fitting.
b) Check that the barbed fitting is not blocked by poking at the opening wth a screwdriver.
c) If the barbed connection is Galvanzied and it has gotten heavily corroded, replacement of that fitting is recommended.

2. Discharge hose is blocked/kinked from dishwasher to drain connection.
a) After 1b), place discharge end of hose into a bucket and run the dishwasher through a cycle.
b) If flow is poor, examine hose for kinking or parts (such as couplings) that may have corroded shut. Removing front panel and using a flashlight will be required for this (1/4" nut driver/phillips) If such corrosion found, 1c).
c) If hose and fittings are ok, there may be an inline filter whose screen is clogged or a filter screen where the dishwasher ties into it's discharge line.
3. Pump has failed internally . Usually held in place by large squeeze clamps, screws, gear clamps. Will most likely removal of dishwasher from alcove to repair. Any reputable dealer should stock parts. i.e. Kenmore => Sears
N.B. May be under warranty - check. May be cheaper just to get another dishwasher at this point, especially if the dishwasher is more than 10 years old.

GE dishwasher, model #gsd4000j00bb, won't drain.

I just posted the soloution that I found for this problem to another question. I found a bone stuck in the impeller of the discharge pump. Requires that you pull the unit out turn it on its side (rather messy and everything needs to get disconected as if you were going to remove the unit from the house and install a new one). Find the discharge pump and remove the cover (I pulled a 2.5" rib bone chip) remove the blockage, button everything back up, hook it all up slide it back in and now mine works.

Connector to the faucet for GE Nautilus portable dishwasher

We just bought a used version of the GE Nautilus and we were able to get a generic "fits most portable dishwashers" adapter and it worked great. We went to Fred Meyer (which I believe is a Kroger company in the NW) and it was the only one they had. It only cost $3.99. The brand is Plumb Craft by Waxman and the model number is 76-127. Dishwasher Faucet Aerator. Hope this helps!

Good Luck!
