Question about LG Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Will not read DVD discs.

The drive will not read DVD discs. It will read CDs. I updated firmware and installed DVD codecs for Windows Media Player. When a DVD disc is in the drive my system tells me to insert a disc. The drive used to read DVDs and burn DVDs. It doesn't even recognize DVD discs that it burned.

It looks like you have a lens problem, DVD and CD use a different error correction and different track format.
A dirty lens can read CD but not DVD.
Tru first using a lens cleaner like this ones:

If it does not work you can try cleaning the lens directly with cotton and isopropyl alcohol, you will need to undo the screws at the button and to take apart the cover. Unplug power when doinfg this.

If it still does not work, since you aready reinstalled the firmware, the lens may be faulty.
You can order the lens pickup from factory and replace it.

My NEC doesn't read DVD's, DVD-RW and CD read good. Please help! Firmware 1.07 Windows XP

I assume that you are talking about movie DVD's; you need a 3rd party program that can play DVD's, or you need to install the proper codec's to play DVD's; because of fear of "monopoly" lawsuits, Windows Media Player in XP does not natively support DVD playback. You can either look for and install the necessary codec's, or you can download and install VLC player (among others) that have the necessary functionality built in. Try this link:

http://download.cnet.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html

It is from download.com, and is tested to be malware free. Load the DVD in your drive, open "My Computer", right click the DVD drive, choose "Open With" and select VLC player.

My windows media player wont play movies

Try downloading VLC player, if this does not play your videos then it is your Drive that needs a driver update or has gone bad. If VLC player does play it or asks you to install mpeg2 codecs, then all you need to do is google "mpeg2 codec download for windows media player X" (X being the current version of WMplayer you are using). The reason behind this problem is that Windows media player does not come preloaded with a full library of codecs, there are packages of codecs that you can download such as divx codecs that will have the majority of commonly used video compression decompressors.

DVDs will not play on drive(DRW-1608P3S)

The reason for this issue is the lack of a codec software like Cyberlink PowerDVD or PowerCinema. These are paid versions. We could try installing a codec pack from Klite. Its free. The link is : http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=5075&s=775 Please let me know whether it fixed it

Play dvd nothing - play s/d card (video) sound but no picture.

You need to update the dvd softwear. Check the default settings for playback of media,if it is set to windows media it won't work if you hav'nt installed the correct updates. Choose the Toshiba dvd player as the default player and it should work. If you prefer windows media then you can get the updated codecs from ' free-codecs.com ' Easier still, try uninstalling your windows media player and installing windows media 11, this will usually resolve the problem.

Have you tried other dvd's?? because you may just need the codec.
If your dvd drive doesn't recognise your dvd disks, you can try to update the drive's firmware (go to the manufacturers website to download). If this doesn't work i would say you need a new dvd drive.

Wont play commercial dvds

should i assume that the drive work previouly with com dvd? my annlysis of this problem is that the dvdrom is not able to read the format the dvd is in. the format of the hard drive does not determine the ability to read or not read a dvd. that is the job of the optical disc.so dont worry about the format that is in.ok. the other aspect of the ability to read dvd is the software. windows media player and other that are of age has a inability to play some new format dvd. best bet install the newest version of power dvd put the disc and check should start automat pending setting you may need to go to my computer and double clickon the romdrive. let me know.
