Reset the modem. Unplug from power for about 30 seconds, replug and wait perhaps 2 minutes. Does it work now? If not, what lights are blinking? Depending on the model, the lights should tell you what is and is not working. The troubleshooting guide in the manual should tell you what is going on. You did not give a model number. I hope this helps you.
you need to call the cable company tell them your ip lease is cycling every 15 minutes, it is a node conflict, they can fix it on their end. if the cable modem is a hacked one, then you just need to clone a new MAC yours is not valid anymore. if not a hacked one, call tech support. good luck!
If all the lights go out I would assume you mean the power light as well. Couple of things I would look at:
Has your ISP replaced the modem including the power adapter?
Has your ISP verified there is no short on the incoming data cable? You could try to wiggle the incoming data cable to see if the lights go out. I would do the same on the power cable.
If it's not a mechanical fault (cables), verify that you have the correct and current drivers for your modem and operating system.
this can be a couple of things one that you keep losing signal from your ISP keep an eye on your DSL nad ETHERNET light
if at any point they turn red call your ISP try not to set that modem to close to the monitor on the ground basicly any whenr where their could be static next to the refidurator or a TV
static make modem restart
another thing is that this might be early signs of your modem going to brake
1).turn off the modem and the router.disconnected from the Internet ISP. and the computer.
2).disconnect the router from the modem.
3).turn on the modem.
4).connect the router to the modem, and turn on the router.
5).connected the computer to the router, adn turn on the computer.
if you are using wireless, waited about 5 minutes before turning it on.
goto control panel>>wireless network, and configure the wireless seting.
Get one router working first with the modem following the standard instructions. If you've been messing with the router settings, use the Reset procedure described in the manual.
When your computer is able to access the internet, you've got the first router working.
I assume you want the second router to make more ethernet ports available.
Disconnect the computer from the first router, and plug it into the second. DONT CONNECT IT TO THE MODEM.
Again, reset it to the factory defaults. Open your browser and type in 192.168.1.1 and login to the router. Find the DHCP server setting, and disable DHCP.
Get another ethernet cable and connect it to one of the ethernet ports on the first router, and the other end to an ethernet port on the second router. DONT USE THE WAN PORT. Unplug each router, then replug them.
You should now be able to use any of the ethernet ports on either router (reboot your PC after doing the above).
