Downloaded programs can be installed onto the Dell Axim X30 using Microsoft ActiveSync. Microsoft ActiveSync can be installed onto your computer using the Dell Companion CD which came with your Axim X30.
Once Microsoft ActiveSync is set up on your computer, if the program you downloaded came in an installer file, then double-clicking on the file will start the installation wizard and the software will be automatically transferred to the Axim.
If the program you downloaded did not come as an installer file, then double-clicking it will bring up an error message. In that case, use ActiveSync Explore to copy the program file to the Program Files folder on your Axim.
Which Operating System are you using? Is it windows XP or VISTA? You need to download Microsoft ActiveSync in case using Windows XP from: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/activesync-download.mspx
and in case of windows VISTA, download Windows Mobile Device Center from: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
All versions of activesync will handle this device providing it is powered by Microsoft Widows Mobile, Microsoft Windows CE, or a similar Microsoft Windows Powered OS. I am unaware of what your specific device utilizes; however I do know that all versions of ActiveSync will provide support to devices listed above.
The CD is most likely a support plug-in or a remote install for desktop to device software.
Please consult Dell's support and Drivers site for any additional information or pieces of software you may require. You should however, providing your desktop/laptop computer is using > Windows XP, be able to utilize limited access abilitys of your device (such as transfer of files) given Windows Mobile device recognition.
Please let us know if you require further information.
If you are using Windows XP, you can download Acivesync 4.5 from Microsoft's website, and by this software you can connect your PDA to your laptop (You'll need Windows Mobile Device Center if you're using Windows Vista). Note: Most probably you won't need the PDA's CD, when XP detects the USB device, if it asks for, point it to C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Drivers and it should install perfectly. But normally Both XP and Vista can recognize Dell Axim PDAs.
Install the latest Duo software load, from: http://www.pantechusa.com/html/images/software/download.htm
If you still have ActiveSync problems, try:
1) install activesync software
2) On the phone, go to Settings > Connections > Modem Link > then set the modem link status to INACTIVE.
3) On the phone, go to Settings > Connections > USB to PC > then select Enable advanced network functionality.
4) plug the phone in via USB to PC... the sync software will recognize the phone automatically when connected, and windows will not ask for driver install.
Try to disable any security software (i.e. firewall, anti-virus)
then go to My Computer, right click on the CD-Drive that has the Companion CD, select Explore and install the software manually from there on.
Do you use companion CD for Active sync installation? Can you please tell me which driver is necessary to have? Is there any error message and what is content of this message?
It can also be that Active Sync is already installed! Please check at Add and remove Software in Control panel!
Otherwise go to www.microsoft.com and download a current version of active sync
If you install the Toshiba Pocket PC e570 via USB cradle under Windows 2000 or Windows XP a warning message may appear durning this installation:
The driver for the USB cradle comes from Microsoft and is integrated in the ActiveSync 3.5 Software. This driver has not been signed, therefore this warning appears.
This is only a warning messages. You can certainly continue with the installation, and expect the driver to run well.
