After last update the device worked for half hour and then froze. After this it starts shows the black garmin display up loading maps and shut down.

Will not power on. I left the device in its cradle with the charger plugged in. I turned the device off, and when I tried to turn it on a couple of days later: nothing. Ditto when I connect it to my PC.

You can try a master reset: press and hold the lower right corner of the screen and power it on. You should get a message asking if you want to delete user data just say yes.

Garmin won't come on

plug it in to the wall charger or car charger for about 4 hours, then slide and hold power button for up to 15 seconds till it starts.

if that fails, unplug the nuvi then press and hold the lower right hand corner of the screen until you see the message " Do you really want to erase all user data?" remove your finger from the screen and select YES. (this will erase all your saved data) this should reset your nuvi to the factory settings.

use the web updater to update your nuvi once you get it started again.

you can get it HERE

let me know if you need further help.

Have you tried sliding the power switch to the left and holding for at least 30 seconds?

I have a Garmin 760 did not come with a ac

The AC charger plugs into the mini-USB port on the bottom of the unit. The term AC is somewhat misleading as the AC charger plugs into an AC outlet but provides +5VDC to charge the units internal 3.7VDC battery.

You can purchase an OEM AC charger here:

Hi I have this model too. You must have the 120v charger with the Mini-B  port on it. It plugs into that port on the bottom(PS3 controllers cameras, and other Computer devices often have a mini-B USB

My garmin 750 gps will not turn on when plugged into power source

A dead battery will cause the unit not to turn on, but it should turn on if connected to an external power source like an AC wall charger or DC car charger.

Garmin 760 wont come on

Try holding the power slide to the left and holding it there for 8 seconds. If that doesn't work, try charging it via your PC & USB cable. If that doesn't work, try a mains charger if you have one (I had to do this with mine). Good luck!

New Nuvi 760 that won't work

Using the PC to charge a Nuvi is not the correct way to charge. Use either the AC wall charger or DC car charger. Many PC USB ports can not supply enough current to charge a Nuvi.

Sounds like you both have a battery problem. I experienced a similar problem when trying to charge via the USB-cable connected to my computer.
Ended up buying an original charger (expensive) and the charging went smooth.
The car charger should in any case work fine, so probably your battery is not very healthy.

Try holding your finger on the battery symbol for about 10 sec. The unit will then switch to a technical page. There you can observe the battery and charging voltage. When I plug in my computer USB-cable, I read around 4,4V and that is not sufficient for charging my battery.
When connected to the original charger, this voltage rises to about 5V which gives a nice charge. When unplugging charger, the unit displays the battery capacity. If the charging voltage is OK, but battery capacity drops quickly after you unplug charger cable, the battery is probably bad. (Of course you have to charge is for some time) I think around 4V battery voltage give 100% capacity. 3,9V gives about 90% capacity.
This will not solve your problem, but can give you an idea about what is wrong.
Good luck.
