TI-89 won't stay turned off/ can't turn off alpha function

The two are probable related- when I power on my calculator after a hard reset without batteries or backup battery, the alpha function turns on and stays stuck on unless I hold down the alpha key. When I try to turn it off, it turns back on after about half of a second. I tried the 2nd-L-R-On reset, blew off any dust that may have been on the i/o ports and still haven't had any luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

Auto-off is to turn off the alpha button when you enter into a program that only uses numbers. It's a safe asm program and download the one that says, ".89z" to your calculator. I guess it will work or not. Remember where you got that program in case you need to uninstall it. I actually think you'll like it. Just have it real close so you can run it when you need to. If you have hardware 2 make sure you download h220xtsr too.

I tried to figure a way to help you with a simple function, I'll let you know if I come up with any ideas.

I cant find my L1 buttom in ti 89

There isn't one. Unlike the TI-83/84, the TI-89 lets you use any name for lists. If you want a list (or any other item) named "L1" you can spell it out by pressing ALPHA 4 1.

I have a TI-89, I enter a function and then switch to graph. It shows nothing. I tried simple functions like y=x, y=2 and nothing.. It does show the X and Y axis only.

What probably happened is the graph was turned off. stealthnh.png to turn the graph back on, select the function (ex. y1) and then press f4. This should turn the graph back on and you should see the function.
Hope this helps.

My ti 89 calculator turns on but the screen is blank. i don't get any results when i push the apps button.

Having gone five months without a response, I assume either the contrast adjustment or the reset solved the problem.

TI 89 when solving equations or integrating a message appears:

With the ALPHA keyboard, Type in the NewProb command and press ]ENTER] It resets the one-letter variables to their default status.
Alternatively, you can use the CATALOG of commands to launch the NewProb command.
Another way is
In HOME directory, press the [2nd][F1] to activate the F6 key. In the menu list, press 1:Clear a-z and ]ENTER].
If you have to use the variable x multiplied by a function (sin, cos, tan, log, etc) do not used implied multiplication: enter the [*] explicitly.

Try a hard reset if you're willing to sacrifice the contents of all RAM.

1. Make sure the batteries are installed correctly.
2. Press and hold the 2nd, Left, and Right keys.

TI 89 problem

Try doing a hard reset (hold simultaneously Left + Right + 2nd + On). If it just isn't wanting to display properly, but does turn on, that might help. I think you can do the same thing by taking the four AAA's out and the spare CR1616/CR1620. Otherwise, the battery acid probably ate one of your components and it's time to repair/replace your handy-dandy.
