Digital Camera Battery Packs – OK to go generic?

I just bought a Canon Powershot G6 and I wanted to buy some extra batteries but they're very expensive. I looked on eBay and found generic ones for a fraction of the amount but I'm a little leery about putting crap in a camera that I just spent a lot of money on. Does anyone have any experience with generic battery packs for digicams that they could share?

Re: Digital Camera Battery Packs – OK to go generic?

I bought one for my Nikon Coolpix 880 and it has worked fine for several years. I would look carefully at the feedback of the Ebay seller and.

My friend gave me a powershot 600 but i dont have charger for it i dont even know if it works can i use a usb cord and charge it on my laptop

That's still a nice camera. No, you can't charge it through the USB port. Luckily, the Canon battery that it uses is very common, with many inexpensive generic options available for the battery and charger. Here's a new battery with charger from Amazon. And you'll also need a 2GB SD card if one didn't come with the camera. Do not buy anything larger than 2GB as it will not work with your model camera. Finally, here's the Basic user manual for your camera, and if you want to get fancy with it, here's the advanced user manual.

When I charged the battery, it seemed to have no charge as soon as I removed it from the charger. So I bought a new battery and that is doing the same thing. Do you think the charger is at fault? I don't...

Ideally it will be good to have the voltage checked a the pin of the charger. if the voltage is good then connect to the camera and check the voltage at the battery terminals inside the camera. If this is lower than the specified battery voltage then the adapter is faulty. If not there can be some error's in the camera charger control circuit in the camera.- hoping that your battery is the OE type.

Canon SD1100 won't turn on. I just bought a used one off of Ebay because I liked the model (mine was stolen) and it seemed to be working fine. However, the seller gave me a generic, no-name battery and...

That likely wouldn't fix it now. The cheap generic batteries sometimes cause this problem. Let me make a suggestion, if you go to camerasand parts.com they only charge $69 to totally service the camera up, that includes the power problem too and also the shipping back. The good thing is that since you have a power problem, they'll swap out your battery for you too if that was the problem. Just thought to mention that as a suggestion, they're amazing if you need help with a Canon Powershot Digital Camera. If things don't work out with the seller, here's a great option and maybe the seller will pitch in to have it serviced up.

First of all, have you tried pressing the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera? Next, if your camera's battery is more than a couple years old, it's time for a new battery. Fortunately, inexpensive generic versions of the NB-4L are widely available these days. Here's some from Amazon. Read the user reviews as some generics are better than others. And if your charger truly has shorted out (again I'd check the battery first), here's some generic chargers from Amazon.

Camera will not turn on and battery indicator displays battery is fully charged. Canon Powershot G6

You need to clean the battery contacts with a Q-Tip dampened in rubbing alcohol inside the battery compartment. Also clean the battery itself and the charger. Thanks, Dana

Loose display screen on Canon Powersho G6 camera.

Try your local camera repair shop. They should have extra screws. You could also buy a nonworking camera on Ebay and use it for parts.

If you have any nonworking electronics laying around you can take some screws from them and see if they fit.

They should be metric.

Canon ixus 60

The ixus 60 is also known as the SD600. It's actually quite a good camera. It uses the "NB-4L" battery. You'll need a charger for your camera's battery. Simply remove and place the battery in the charger and plug it in the wall. If you don't have a charger, generic ones are very inexpensive (so are the generic replacement batteries):
