Question about Canon GL2 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Open Question

Using Clearscan function on GL2

I am recording live music where stage lighting has a faint flicker. I assume they are fluorescent.
I followed my GL2 instructions to take the exposure out of auto, and either use it in Manual or Shutter priority.
However, when I enter the menu to select the proper frequency, the Clearscan function is still not available.
What am I missing to be able to use this feature. Any help would greatly appreciated.

Hi, how long have you had your camcorder? my reason for asking is that i have the same model, and recently had to send it back to Canon who were recalling camcorders with image problems as there were a batch of faulty CCD cards Good luck

yes, I found the manual downloads on Canon's webpage. I wish I could figure out how to transfer my tape videos to a computer. I bought the $50,00 DV-1394 cord and nothing happens--computer doesn't recognize the camera.

Make sure you have the camcorder set to record on the dvd, since you can't go into the 16:9 mode when recording to the memory card- at least that's the way it was on one of my camcorders.
If you already have the dvd selected, you might be experiencing a faulty switch pad or similar problem, in which case the unit will have to be serviced. You can take it into a local camera repair shop, or contact Canon. Here's their support site:
If you're not sure of the menu settings that will allow 16:9 mode, refer to your manual. If you take it into a camera shop, they should be able to assist you if it's just a setting, or verify if there's a different problem.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Cannon MVX3000i goes into auto zoom

had an issue like that with my GL2 at an older stage. Ended up the dimmers and light combination would emit IR that confussed the camera into thinking I was using the remote control to zoom it... if it has an external (not in the lens) pickup you might try covering the IR reciever on the camera with dark tape (if you use masking tape or electrical tape, take it off after you are done as to not leave goop all over your camera)... a post it might work well. Otherwise look in the setup and turn off the remote if possible.... Just one possibility....

My camera seys it's recording but nothing comes up

Head down to Walmart and pickup a JVC head cleaner. Be sure to follow the directions on the package. Also, change the brands of tapes that your using to either Panasonic, JVC or Fuji brand- or the professional versions of ANY brand. Something else: Only re-record on any one tape to a maximum of three times, with only ONCE being recommended.

No DV output from Canon GL2. Using a firewire cable from DV port on camera to firewire port on Mac Pro tower. Attempting to import the camera live to Final Cut Pro. Previously worked just fine.

Was the tape your trying to import recorded on the camera you are trying to import from? I've noticed that sometimes the tape I recorded on my old Panasonic won't show up on my GL2. It's like it's a blank tape, but I know it's not, as I have it labeled. Stick it back into the panasonic and it plays fine.

My GL2 only works when I turn it on to playback mode. When I try to turn the camera on in camera mode, it doesn't work. What could the problem be?

There is a simple solution to that... You see under the 'card-tape' switch? There's the red button for recording... attached to that button the is a switch that says 'tandby or lock'.... if you have it in 'lock' it will not let you go to record mode, you have to change it back to 'standby' and that should solve your problem.... Anymore question just e-mail me at and I was wondering if you had a copy of the installation CD I can buy or have.... or maybe you could tell me where to get it? Thanks.
