You are connected to a power source that is inadequate, possibly a poor ground in the vehicle or an underrated power supply if using as a base. Oxidized connections on the fuse or fuseholder may also be the cause.

Why is humming coming from speaker when mic is keyed?

this is strange as most times if a proper transmit key is depressed , then the radio switches from receive to transmit , the mfg know this would cause some great squeal from receiver /transmitting so close to a receiver so the part that is the receiver is muted to keep this from happening , id say there is some fault in the part that does this muting of receiver

Uniden pc-122 keyed up when turned on & won't

I DON'T THINK ITS THE MICROPHONE , i THINK ITS IN THE RADIO ITSELF FROM THE MIC PLUG TO THROUGH THE RESISTORS ,DIODES,AND OTHER COMPONENTS. check the transmit circuit and see if the problem lies with in it.Audio chip, the main IC itself and all the diodes caps and resisters along the line .

Make sure your boots are switched off and run the radio off a good car battery before you start looking for problems inside the radio. This problem may clear or change characteristics when the supply is changed.

When transmitting it has a loud squealing noise, it is so bad that i had a problems getting a radio check. HELP

What you describe sounds like feedback ... a contition that exists when two radios are on the same freq and close enough that the signal is re-transmitted as it travels from the speaker of one to the keyed mic of the other. This is a shot in the dark ... can this be the condition you are experiencing?

mike has wiring problems. Check for breaks in cord and where the plug goes into the unit. If not original mike then has incorrect wiring for the radio and will need to be changed for config

Have not used my cobra for some time ...sine someone need my K40 antennae more than me. Just put it back in service with a new magnet mount 36 inch - can send and receive in USB and LSB ....can here in the...

Center the antenna on the vehicle, then check the SWR on channel 1 and channel 40.
with the switch in CAL position, key radio and use the swr/cal knob to set the meter so the needle is just touching the end of the red area on the right-hand side of the meter.
Once calibrated, unkey and switch the switch to SWR and key up again. The lower the reading, the better. If the SWR is Higher on 40, the antenna needs to be shorter.. if its higher on 1, then the antenna needs to be longer.

if it dont transmit period on AM, then there's an internal glitch :)

Squealing Noise

Hi,

Some radios use the push to talk switch in the microphone to ground the receiver section when transmitting instead of a relay in the radio. There may be a problem with that switch, or the switching circuit in the radio itself.

If you have a PA switch make sure it is in the off position, if on it will squeal like a pig!

Cb transmitting problem

Hello kaelea,

Check your ground wire and by your post I gather that you are user some form of headphone device, I say this because normally the speaker is off when the microphone is keyed. I would also check the controls on the headset if you are using one.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,
