You need to have the restore disk that came with the machine or if you don't have it, then you will need to get a Windows XP cd and find the drivers for your hardware on Toshiba's Support website.

You can follow LavaTech's instructions to set the machine to boot from the cd, and you can load any retail version of windows. You will have to go to http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp?nav=Product%20Support
to download and install the device drivers.

SOURCE: how do i restore my toshiba p300-172 back to

a couple of ways to do that 1) if you have the recovery CDs supplied with the PC - then you can use these - put the CD into the drive and when it boots follow the instructions 2) If you have a recovery partition on the laptop - have a read here to see if you have one http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/outFrm.jsp?ofId=AskIris&searchString=recovery+to+factory 3) This link shows you how to use the partition http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletinDetail.jsp?soid=2291088&pf=true basically as the PC boots TAP F8 key - from the menu that appears choose "repair your computer"

Testimonial: "tnx i just remembered it never came with a recovery cd but it did come with toshiba recovery disc creator, might give it a try wen i get some cd's."

I have a toshiba A215-S7437 and i get the error message read disk error when trying to boot up

A disk error is a fatal error on the hard drive, SMART monitoring will show you this in the BIOS, restoring to factory settings will not cure it.
You need to get a new hard disk and reinstall your OS

My Toshiba A215-S4697 froze and I shut it off by holding the power button down. When I went to turn it back on the power light came on but the Satelitte light didn't. The screen wasn't on either and the...

it could have failed, but its more likely you have sequential procedures for the power button, like holding it down for more than 5 seconds etc--you might have just put your machine into "standby mode"--check manufacturers site for power key process--good luck!

Hello,
I am not sure that the removal of the CMOS battery would erase the passord on boot. Better take it to a Toshiba Certified Service Center.
Hope it helps.
