Water leaks out of the front of the dishwasher between the top door panel and the small cover that sits under it. Is it an easy fix and cheap or should I get a new dishwasher?

Dishwasher Not Leveled

Some dishwashers have separate drain and circulating pumps Some use one pump to serve both purposes. In either case you will need to check the housings for leaks along with all the connections. Some dishwashers have a seal that leaks down into the pump . This is easy and inexpensive to replace. Follow the tutorial on replacing the pump.

Door Latch

The door latch can become loose or misalinged. Check both the striker and the latch. To adjust the latch you will need to remove the front panel and adjust switch until properly aligned.

Door Hinges

They can cause problems, but this usually only happens from opening a heavy load of dishes on the door. Occassionaly a broken spring or cable occurs. You will need to remove the tow kick and maybe the front panel to inspect.

Is there a puddle in front of your dishwasher? Often this is a relatively easy problem to solve. At best, all you need to do is tighten a few fittings or level the dishwasher so water doesn't slosh out when the machine is running. At worst, you may need to replace a door gasket.
Instructions
Tools Needed to solve the problem.
Worm-drive Hose Clamp,Adjustable Pliers,Adjustable Wrench, Replacement Door Gasket, Screwdriver,Small Level
Tightening the fittings
1 Remove the service panel that runs along the front of the dishwasher just below the door. If it is screwed in place, remove the screws with a screwdriver. If the panel hangs on hooks, pull the panel out and swing it up to remove it from the hooks.
2 Check the end of the drain hose that connects to the dishwasher. If it's leaking, tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.
3 Check the drain hose connection to the kitchen sink drain. Again, if it's leaking, tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.
4 Check for leaks around the water-inlet valve. If necessary, use an adjustable wrench to tighten the compression fitting that connects the water-supply line to the valve. If the fill hose is leaking, replace the spring clamp that is on the hose with a worm-drive hose clamp. It produces more clamping pressure. Use adjustable pliers to compress the spring clamp so you can pull the clamp and hose off the valve. Remove the spring clamp from the hose. Buy a worm-drive clamp at your hardware store, then install it and tighten it with a screwdriver.
Leveling the machine
1 Remove the front access panel (see step 1, "Tightening the fittings"). This will give you access to the dishwasher's adjustable feet.
2 Open the door completely and remove the bottom dish rack.
3 Unscrew the dishwasher from the kitchen countertop so the dishwasher can move freely as you adjust the feet.
4 Check to see if the dishwasher is level side to side. Place a small level inside the dishwasher so it's sitting on the bottom pan and facing parallel to the front lip of the dishwasher. If the dishwasher is not level, use adjustable pliers to turn one of the dishwasher's front feet up or down until you hit level.
5 Check to see if the dishwasher is level front to back. Turn the level perpendicular to the door, and place it on one of the bottom ledges that run along the side of the cabinet. Check the level again. If the dishwasher isn't level, use your adjustable pliers to turn the back feet up or down until you hit level.
6 Reattach the dishwasher to the countertop and reinstall the front access panel.
Fixing a leaking door
1 Inspect the door gasket. As it ages, the gasket can crack or become hard, preventing it from sealing completely
2 If the gasket appears solid, adjust the door latch so the door seals tightly. Loosen the screw that holds the door latch to the cabinet. Push the latch in slightly and retighten the screw. Test the door and readjust the latch if necessary.
3Replace the gasket if water continues to leak after you've tightened the latch. Most gaskets are held by compression in a groove on the door or on the dishwasher cabinet.
4 Pull the old gasket out of its groove, using adjustable pliers (see illustration). Take the gasket to an appliance store to get a replacement.
5 Soak the new gasket in warm water to soften it, then press it into the groove. Start at the top, then work your way down the sides and across the bottom.

Tightening the fittings

1 Remove the service panel that runs along the front of the dishwasher just below the door. If it is screwed in place, remove the screws with a screwdriver. If the panel hangs on hooks, pull the panel out and swing it up to remove it from the hooks.

2 Check the end of the drain hose that connects to the dishwasher. If it's leaking, tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.

3 Check the drain hose connection to the kitchen sink drain. Again, if it's leaking, tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.

4 Check for leaks around the water-inlet valve. If necessary, use an adjustable wrench to tighten the compression fitting that connects the water-supply line to the valve. If the fill hose is leaking, replace the spring clamp that is on the hose with a worm-drive hose clamp. It produces more clamping pressure. Use adjustable pliers to compress the spring clamp so you can pull the clamp and hose off the valve. Remove the spring clamp from the hose. Buy a worm-drive clamp at your hardware store, then install it and tighten it with a screwdriver.
Leveling the machine

1 Remove the front access panel (see step 1, "Tightening the fittings"). This will give you access to the dishwasher's adjustable feet.

2 Open the door completely and remove the bottom dish rack.

3 Unscrew the dishwasher from the kitchen countertop so the dishwasher can move freely as you adjust the feet.

4 Check to see if the dishwasher is level side to side. Place a small level inside the dishwasher so it's sitting on the bottom pan and facing parallel to the front lip of the dishwasher. There is a ventilator mechanism on the top right corner, behind the control panel / front cover.

******TURN THE POWER OFF AT THE BREAKER BEFORE STARTING, BE SURE POWER IS OFF ******

Open the door; remove all of the screws that hold just the front panel (not the controls panel). These screws are located on the inside of the door, around the outer edges. The front door panel will be able to be removed. Close the door with the front panel removed.

***IMPORTANT be sure nobody will come in contact with the exposed wiring (especially little kids) *********

Turn back on the breaker, turn on the washer, and run a quick rinse cycle. See where the water is coming from.

On my washer (same model) i had to replace the entire vent kit (sears parts ~$40.00) Call them with your model and serial number, or search online. Removal and replacement was very easy, and it did fix my leaking problem. Checked with the front door panel off and a quick rinse before I TURNED POWER BACK OFF and put the front cover back on.

Root cause?? From what I can tell, the solenoid stopper hardens over time, which allows for water from the spray arms to leak past.

Get it fixed now before you smoke the motor or control card. My part number was ABT35083501 be sure to double check model before purchasing.

Thanks for using FixYa. If you have nuisance water leaks around the base of your dishwasher, you may be using a detergent that is causing too much suds. Cut back on the amount of detergent you use, and see if that makes a difference.

Water that spills through the door vent is usually caused by improperly loading dishes. Leaks from the door itself may be caused by a faulty door gasket or door tightness adjustment. you should check the main tub seal, the door latch, the door gasket, the water-inlet valve, and the fill and drain hoses.

Also make sure the dishwasher is sitting level (you can adjust the front feet up or down, and many units have some type of levelers at the rear).

Water under the dishwasher may be originating from a leaky hose or loose hose connection. Remove the lower front panel, and check the hoses. The pump seal may be defective, too; replacing this is a job for an appliance repairperson.

An older dishwasher may corrode at the bottom, but this is fairly uncommon. If this is the case with your dishwasher, it's time for a new one.

I had a similar problem with a KUDM25SHWH1 dishwasher. Rubber seal looked fine. I found an incredible tip on another fixi it site. One possible problem iss the pump cover screws may have worked loose and is squirting water directly on the door seal. Man that was it! I saw a couple of looses screws and a small portion of the pump cover gasket showing. I loosened the pump top, reset the gasket tightened it all down...no leaks! The pump I refer to is located directly below the spray arm inside the washer. Easy to get to. Another tip was to look for a split sspray arrm that may spray water directly into the door seal.

Br, couple of things you can look for here. Check the vent, you can just pop this out. Sometimes there is a buildup of gunk which will hold water during wash and leak down between the door. There is a seal there, part number 974782. Another thing is to check the upper spray arm for cracks or splitting. This can send a direct flow of water into the vent. There is also a seal at the bottom of the upper spray arm, part number 3376846. I was fooled by a leak like this once, it turned out to be a clogged vent...Catriver..post back.
