It's possible that a motor has died, or the tray has come off it's runners. Because of the replacement price of these parts, it's often cheaper to just put a new drive in, than it is to get the old one repaired.

If your confident at taking it apart, then you can look to see if there is a physical problem, but because it's a class 1 laser device, then I really wouldn't recommend you opening it up.

The dvd tray is stuck and wont activate

switch off the computer, locate pinhole near the dvd tray, insert lengthy pin or nidle and push, the tray will pop out, move the tray in and out 3 - 4 times and switch on the pc. most of the cases this will work fine. best of luck.. and keep smiling

Tray wont open

Power your unit off using the button. when it's off unplug the power source from the back of the XBOX and leave it out for 30 sec. Reconnect the power source and reboot your machine. Try the disc tray again. If it doesn't work try giving it a tap or a solid knock on the top of the case above the disc tray while it's trying to open. Don't drop the machine or try to pry the tray open. If it doesn't open when you tap it then try light pressure on the front of the tray while it's trying to open. (you can tell it's trying to open because the disc status on the screen will say opening...)

Now if the above did not work
Get a straightened paper clip.
Remove the faceplate carefully starting from the indention that you will see on the side
After removing the faceplate, look for a pinhole just below the disc tray.
*There are two pinholes just below the cover of the disc tray and one pinhole below the X and B of XBOX logo.
*You can try any of the three holes
*Pinholes are so small that the girth of the paper clip is the only object that can fit through the pinhole.

Now insert the paper clip into the pinhole then put a little pressure until the disc opens.

If it opens try to close it, if it closes try opening it again, if it wont open the second time then it need to be serviced
If it opens try to close it, if it wont close try nudging the disc to the right and then to the left, if nudging doesnt then it need service
If it wont open after trying all three pinholes - its needs service

It may be jammed or the drive gear stripped.

Lite on drive drawer is sticking. wont open

Sounds as if you may have a disk in there that's lodged between the tray and the inner mechnism. Use the release pinhole, and a small screwdriver or butter knife to pry open the tray, gently. You'll feel it releasing when you insert a straightened paperclip or other small object.

Tray does not open and the light lits green all the time. how to open the tray?

There should be a pinhole below the tray. Take a pin or paperclip and insert it in the pinhole to eject the tray.

IMedia B2217 PC: DVD lid flaps down but drive

There should be a little pinhole located under the door on the bottom of the tray. Push a paperclip in the hole to get the tray open. After the tray opens, close it and see if you can open it normally, if not it's broken and needs replacing.

Pioneer PDR-W839 Jammed Disc Changer (previously posted)

hello poopig1, after further review, I meant to describe this: look for a pinhole in the area of the CD tray to insert a pin...similar to the same pinhole you see on a PC's cd player to eject the tray manually. If there is none, then try this: Open the cover and find the motor that, when turning, performs the tray ejection. Then, turn that motor by hand until the entire tray (or cartridge) is ejected. Then power up and observe the events.
