Question about Computers & Internet

The power light (antenna icon) on a NetGear WNR834B router is flickering. If I do a reset, the light is steady for a shot period of time and then starts flickering quickly on and off. Does this indicate that inncoming information is sporatic or is a regular thing with this router?

DaLump,

It sounds like there is a problem with your router. You might want to try this suggested fix:

Unfortunatly, if it won't even power up anymore, there no way to even diagnose what the problem might have been. sorry to say, but i think it may be time for a new router.

Internet connection stopped suddenly

Switch off power to the modem, router and computer. Now switch on the modem first and let all lights on it to be stable.. Then switch on the router and let all lights on the router become stable. Once the lights on router are all stable, switch on the computer and then try to accerss sites.

NetGear router-no lights

No lights means either no AC power or a dead router.
If you have a multi-meter, you can test the voltage and amperage being emitted by the power-adapter brick.

Otherwise, it's better to spend $50 to buy a replacement, than it is to spend $50 on the time of a computer technician's "trouble-shooting" efforts.

This router is not working

Try the reset button to put it back to factory default. If it's still not working, it's time for a new router.

Is a warmstart or soft reset on a netgear wnr834b possible ?? i hate the switch on / off procedure ( coldstart) to get my internet connection back ! THANx

There are times when the easiest method to reset the router is to power it down and then back up. You will not loose any of your settings on the router. They are stored in memory. You should not fear the power down.

Netgear WNR834Bv2 failed - powerlight is off, but all other lights are on solidly incl the router and wireless lights (the latter solid, not blinking) and all four ethernet port lights, despite nothing...

If you haven't tried using the reset button, should be an explanation how to use it on the router in the manual, try that.
Also, try a replacement power supply to the router, if you can get hold of one. As this maybe faulty.
However, likely faulty router, maybe due to power surge, due to lightning/bad weather.

I HAVE A NETGEAR RANGEMAX WNR834B - worked fine

Press the hard reset firmly but dont break it.

Can you use the transformer on a similar rated device to assure your trans is putting out the required volts - or - can you measure it with a volt-ohm meter?

I dont think there is a fuse inside, but you could open the case and check. Check the fuse with a contunity checker (volt - ohm meter)

You say the case has a tag that says you will void the warranty if you break it? Is there a warranty on it?

If you have a warranty, get it serviced. If the warranty is expired, duh, it dont work now and you will not make it any worse.

Let me know what you find out

How to reset Netgear RangeMax NExT Wireless Router WNR834B

Do a hard reset (20sec hold reset button, unplug for 20 sec still pressing the reset button and another 20 sec to turn on the power while holding the reset button). That should reset to defaults.
