We just purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio Top Loading Wash Machine and I am needing to know where to find the serial number! The Model Number is WTW5500X... Thanks!
Re: We just purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio Top Loading Wash...
The exact model&serial number can be on a label on the rim around the door usually in the upper left corner. In many cases a second label is on the rear of the washer

Trying to figure out how old my Whirlpool washer is Locate your machine's nameplate, which contains both the model and serial numbers. On top-loading Whirlpool washing machines, open the lid and look for the tag at the top rear of the tub. On front-loading washers, the tag is usually inside the door or near the bottom of the left or right side of the cabinet. If the tag is not in one of those places, pull the machine away from the wall and check the rear. Record the serial number with a pencil and paper or take a photograph. Be sure to record the serial number, not the model number. Decode the serial number at an online source like Appliance Cafe or Appliance 411 (links in Resources). Whirlpool serial numbers include a code in the second character for the year the product was built. Before 1990, the character was a number; from 1990 to 2010 the character was a letter. The number sequence started over in 2011.

As a service tech I ran into this several times.I do not know what the law is but I know as a service tech we were not allowed to perform any warranty work on any unit that did not have a valid serial number. In all my cases the customer went back to where they purchased the units and demanded that they make it right ,and in 90% of the cases they exchanged the units (but not without some dissagrement) obviously you need to work this out this is not a cheap repair
If this is a Whirlpool manufactured TOP LOADER (such as the one you posted this question under), the model number and serial number are located on a nameplate along the wash tub rim under the lid.
If this is a FRONT LOADER, the model number and serial number will be located along the door facing as you open the door.
If you have questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.
It is the RPS sensor, cover by whirlpool. Get your model number and serial number ready and call the 800 number on the machine, tell them you heard it here that it is a recall so you don't get the run around. The sensor is located on the stater motor and comes with a new harness and cost you nothing.
The second digit in the serial number determines the YEAR it was manufactured, the two numbers following that digit represents the WEEK (52 weeks in a year).
The serial number will be listed on a nameplate aloing with the model number. If this is a top loading washer the nameplate can be found along the wash tub rim under the washer lid. If this is a front loader, it will be found along the door opening.
Keep this information handy for future reference with all your Whirlpool appliances.
If you have any questions, or are having difficulty understanding how to determine the date based on your serial number, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.
i just called customer service on our this morning and they are going to fix and pay parts and labor, they know about this problem, good luck, the phone number, model and serial number are located under the lid
Good you ran diagnostics, F 72 shows at c7 when the basket settles after draining the water out. F 72 is a basket re- engagement failure, does your machine go off balance easy? I need to know is the machine was purchased at Sears and the serial number. If so I will get a special phone number for recalls. I hope it is a Sears machine, we see if the hot line can schedule a tech to service the machine. What the recall line will need after confirmation of a Sears purchase is you name and phone number plus model and serial number of machine. Now they will also need the part numbers to order. When these parts are ordered they will ups them to you which at that point you call back so recall can get a tech out to repair the cabrio.
motor control unit part # W10201186
Washplate part # W10077050
Recall number for Sears machines only 1-800-659-7026
I appreciate the chance to help you today, I had a machine like yours today and yesterday with same issue:)
