Re: Soft Images

Have you done the basic unsharp masking after RAW processing? Normally you'll find a 500% strength, 0.3 pixel and a threshold of 1 or 2 brings out the detail masked by the AA filter very well. DOn't bother with the sharpening in PS ACR....it's too crude and doesn't account for how big an enlargement you'll be making. In other words, there's no control. Best of luck....

LCD monitor works to display picture already taken and the menu display, but with not display live images. Must use the view finder. Menu does not have a "live view"

There is no function to do this on the EOS 400D. Don't forget the camera is an SLR and still has to open and close a shutter to take a picture. The image is then converted using a CCD instead of exposed on film. I find with my 20D I just take loads of pictures and review them and then delete the ones that I don't want. This is the beauty of the digital age.

Soft digital images/ not sharp

Wow... Yes it can be fixed but only by a professional tech. You have either slightly shifter the reflector or damaged the sensor. There is also a possibility that you have loosened the auto focus as well. It may be just a simple adjustment. If it becomes too expensive of a fix I REALLY suggest an upgrade to a 40d. They are now affordable and there is a significant improvement in the models. You lenses are also compatible.

Hi all, I wonder if you can supply some advice regarding a Sigma17-35mm lens I purchased earlier in the year. Basically if I use the automatic or 'P' setting on my Canon EOS 30D camera the image is over...

Try your EOS in AV (aprature value) mode. You should be able to adjust your aperature value in 1/3 or 1/2 steps dependind how you have your Custom Functions set in your camera's menu. Possibly the lens you purchased is for an EOS 35mm. If you use a 35mm lens on your eos there are some calculations you must use. When using a 35mm lens on the EOS 20D, 30D, 40D and 50D bodies, you must first calculate your focal leingth by 1.6 times. With this, your exposure changes as well.

The only EOS Digital SLR bodies that use a 35mm x 24mm CMOS sensor are the 1D and 5D. My wife uses a Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 lens on her 20D and loves it.

If this makes no difference, you may have a defective lens.

Canon eos 40d Soft image on playback screen

I think this might be a firmware issue.www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=17779#DownloadDetailAct
Here is a link to Canon's website for your 40D there you will find the latest firmware version for your camera. Version 2.0.0 which includes 1.0.8 . In 1.0.8 item #3 in the list of changes it states repairs a phenomenon where reviewed images appear unnatural.

You mean since beginig the pictures are not sharp as compared with images of similar cameras of other brands, such as Nikon etc. Then there is no defect in your camera. the images of canon EOS 350D are softier then Nikon.

Date on pictures taken and movie shooting on canon eos 400d

The EOS Digital Rebel, EOS Digital Rebel XT and EOS Digital Rebel XTi do not support stamping the date and time on the image.

It is not possible to record the date and time as part of the image at the time the picture is taken. However, the date and time is captured in the EXIF information of the image at the point of capture. It is possible to print the image with the date and time via printing software. Please see the documentation for the software package that you use for printing images for the proper procedure.

Hook 20d camera to computer

new dells are presently shipped with 'vista'. when you connect your camera directly to the computer is should find the camera and ask you if you want to download the images. the camera must be turned on after you connect it.you can use explore to look for the camera. alternately use a card reader for usb 2 if you have a usb 2 port. all new dells have them. download time is much shorter with usb 2.
to access 'explore' simply right click on the start icon and select explore. it will bring up a tree and you can from there find your devices and drives.
good luck

Connection Problem

I too have a Canon 20D and receive the same message. Zoombrowser works fine with my Canon G3, so the way I get around this problem is by using the other software that came with the 20D called EOS Viewer. This software will download your images every time. You might try sending a note to Canon's support team on the Canon website. They are very quick to respond to all questions and they can probably respond to this question too. Good luck!
