so I take it that u have removed the back of TV cover off already. Be careful back there cause the board's still carry a Charge. locate the AC (power cord) and follow it to the board that it is hooked up to. that should be the power supply. carefully look at the Caps. and see if u see any swollen ends. I have found that just replacing the whole board is easier then trying to un-solder and re-solder . But important note,, take pictures of the whole board and the other boards. so u can have a vision on how to put it back.. DO NOT remove the old board till u get the new in. take close up of the sticker and the numbers that is on the bad board. U will need that in order to order a new one. make sure u get the exact replacement..
I have bought power supply boards for as little as $27.00 up to $125.00 according to the TV itself.good idea to buy one of the grounding straps ( they are only like $5.00 or less.)
First look at the indicator lamp on the front left side. If it is: off - check the power cord is plugged into a working outlet. Amber - the unit is in standby, press the on button (left most), it should turn green Green - the unit is in operate mode, check the antenna and cable connection. Red - when power is applied, it will be red for up to 30 seconds. If it remains red, the unit is defective. This is a common problem due to several capacitors on the power supply and logic board that have gone bad. The unit is repairable by replacing these capacitors.

if you have tried it in another room and it still wont come on, some of the receivers have a detachable power cord on the back, check to make sure that is in tight. otherwise the box has gone bad and nothing you can do about it.
sounds like the receiver has gone bad. if you have tried it in numerous rooms/outlets and its not the electrical cord (its plugged in tightly at the back if its detachable) sounds like the receiver needs replaced. if you have the protection plan it MAY be covered under this and MAY be replaced for free. contact directv at 800-531-5000
Not sure if this is a solution for you. I had a problem with the DC power input jack on the player going bad. The batteries would no longer charge. I bought an extra battery and a USB charger from ebay. Now I'm good for two battery cycles and it works again. Although it will never charge it's own batteries or work off of AC power it does still work.
ok if its only the rf cable and the ac cord yes you can do it your self.you have one cable out from the sat reciver going to the dish. Find an area that the pooch didnot chew through cut off the bad part of the wire. find the wire that goes to the tv set. if its the coax disconnect from the reciver on both sides and go to the store and buy a new cable (unless you have coax wire and know how to put on f fittings) also while your there buy a small extenstion for the other cable you cut. also your gonna need a a female barrel connector as we;ll as an rg6 type rf fitting for the end you cut. have the guy at the store explain to ya how to put on a f fitting. If the ac cord was chewed buy a simple cheap extenstion cord too. Go home and first put back on the cable you took off the output of the sat reciver and the other end to your tv set. then put on the f fitting the guy explained to ya how to put on and then install the barrel connector then the short extention wire to the other side of the barrel connector then the other end of the rxtenstion cable to the sat output. Now if the power cord is chewed im surprised the pooch is not fryed!!!lol Simply cut off the bad part take the extention cord and cut of the end you dont need take off about 1 and a 1/2 inches of the insulation on bothe parts(reciver and cord) twist together and tape separatly or use wire nuts on them . then you are good to go. BUt one more little thing are you using video cables between the tv and the sat. reciver?? well why didnt you say so LOL simplyu pull out of both ends and go to rat shack or something like them and buy an inexpensive pair of cables and remeber yellow is always video red is alway right audio and white is left audio Hope this clears things up for ya.!!!!
