Tip & How-To about Refrigerators

STOP PAYING HIGH PRICE FOR REFRIGERATOR WATER FILTER. DO THIS...

Install a filter in the water line between the wall and the ref.

Thats what I have done. The filter costs about a third of the cost
of the factory ones.

Go to your local Appliance Parts store and they will discuss installing
the filter. (Very Easy job)

Be sure and stop the original filter with the stopper that came with the ref.
or remove the filter and screw the filter canister back on to eliminate it.

Cut your line and install the wall side first, so you can flush water and charcoal dust through your new filter into a bucket. Then install the ref side . Be sure the water flow arrows on the filter are pointing toward your Ref.

And you can change the filter anytime because its so cheap

Happy,Happy, Happy Savings.

Water filter is so effective that it clogs completely very quickly. At $45 or more, 5 or 6 replacements a year seem excessive. Is a less efficient filter or a bypass the answer?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
Actually there is another alternative and that is to install an in-line water filter behind the refrigerator. If your having to change filters that often then your either on a well system or your local utility water supply is nothing short of very bad. In line water filters are much cheaper and by installing another IN-LINE filter behind the unit it will make your expensive filter last a lot longer. I have had to double up filters on well water and utility water systems where particulate persists in the water supply. Each filter is only good for about 500 liters / 132 gallons of water. The more expensive wall mounted type ones can supply up to 2000 gallons. Lowes, Ace, Menards, Home Depot et al.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Kelly

Whilpool ed25sm Cold water dispenser leaks

your water valve is bad. behind the ref. in back is a cover. unplung unit remove ref. from back wall about 2-4 ft.remove back cover and you will see a water valve. thats the piece that the hose (your incoming water supply line hooks upto) 1/2 fitting. turn water suppy off. remove screw holding valve. disconnect wires one bye one and hoses one bye one.(so you dont mix them up).if your ref has a inline water filter and has not been replaced in a while i woiuld try that first. valve is about 45-85/ depending on your model ,i do not have that.and labor roughly 75-125 to replace depending on were you live and who you use. hope this helps you.

Moldy Ice from Ice Maker

Hi: Does it have a water filter? Sears parts is offline at the moment, so I can't tell. Most of the newer models do. The 596.xxx tells me that it was built in the Amana factory for Kenmore. Most likely there is a water filter in the top of the fresh food compartment. It has been growing mold in storage, and the lines too. It's on the upper right side, behind a housing with a tab to release it. Lower the housing and remove the water filter. Did you receive the bypass plug with the ref.? It looks like a large plastic wing nut with the same fitting as the water filter. If so put it in and flush the system with city water. Most city water has chlorine to clean your lines. If you install a new filter without flushing the lines it will remove the chlorine as it's supposed to do, but the lines from the filter wont get clean. If you don't have the plug, buy one. Flush the system and then install the filter. I hope this helps, Jeff

The washing machine is full of water and wont drain! rang the whirlpool tech line and was informed it was the filter and before sending a maintence guy to fix it at a cost of 114 euro ( thats the call out fee) to check the filter! guy had no idea wear the filter was! nor do we?? anyone help?

Plug off the wall. Would be good to siphon out maximum water from inside the washer first.
The filter is in the front, remove 3 screws under the front panel, remove the filter cap by turning to the left. (Right of the filter is the pump motor.) To collect the water when removing the filter cap you need a wet vac or a good plastic garbage bag, there could be a lot. Clear out the junk. Replace as you dismantled. If you still have a problem, you have to check the pump to see if anything is clogging it. The cover twists off.

how to install the water hose

you have to have a ice maker install kit that you you can buy at any hardware store if you dont have a water source in the wall behind the ref.(if you have it in the wall you will need a ice maker hose only) but if you have to buy the kit it has a tap valve that you put on the COLD water supply under the sink if you have pvc, poly or quest you will need a special tee. route tubing so it wont interfere with foot traffic to behind the ref. the kit will have a brass nut and a flange put the nut over the tubing then put flange inside the end of the tubing the locate water inlet valve on ref.screw nut onto capped end of valve (remove cap first) then turn on the water and bleed water through ref.using water dispenser on the door until you get water then enjoy. oh kit has instructions in it also good luck
