Tip & How-To about Dryers

Help my dryer is eating my clothes

This is a common occurance in Frigidaire dryers and GE dryers. The glides wear out and the drum usually scrubs to begin with. On GE dryers the glides are mounted on plastic bearing. So the noise is not so much but it will still begin to bind up and to pinch. To replace the glides is very easy. Open the door to remove screws holding down the top. Or use a putty knife to pop the top on some models. Then remove the front panel. The bearing pops off and the glades are fairly easy to replace. I have a repair page on GE dryer HERE

GE 5 Cycle Automatic Heavy Duty Extra Large loud noise

All ge dryers have a center bearing on the back side of the drum and drum glides on the frontside. The glides make a scrubbing sound when bad and the drum is hard to turn. The rear bearing does a squeak thang when the plastic bearing wears thin and begins to make metal to metal contact between drum mount and rear bulkhead mount. It is an easy fix but the drum gotta come out. here is my pictorial page that shows how with videos and repair pix:

my ge dvl223ebww electric dryer won't start, but does hum when the start switch is turned.what are the causes?

Do an inspect. themobilian_2149.jpg
The top will come on off. Check the drum glides for wear
Once them glides wear out yall will be pinching the drum and causing motor stall.
With the top off you can sometimes push start and give it a little help to get it going and then listen out for signs of wear to the glides and bearing in the rear.

Hi i have a GE DRYER and it is making a horrible grinding sound,i took out all the cloth's and tried it again,it is still making the grinding sound, what could be the problem. Thank you

The drum rides on glides in the front and a center bearing in the rear. Those glides are probably gone.
Unplug the dryer and remove these screws then raise the top.
Remove these screws and lift off the front to check those glides
If it is scrubbing you probably need to not only replace the glides
but the glides mount also (called a bearing oddly enough).

Remove the drum and inspect the rear bearing for wear

my dryer makes squeaking noise just on the begining of circle. After few minutes it stops. What that could be?

there are rollers that the drum rides on that could be doing this,or the pulley that the belt attaches to,some dryers have glides on the front bulkhead or like frigidaire the drum rides on a back bearing that wears down, one more thing to check is the blower wheel, next time send brand name and model number, take out the drum and move the rollers and pulley by hand or try rotating the drum by hand to see if you hear the noise, see if it's in the front or back of drum and go from there

Dryer has thumping noise.

Yes that is what most likely is the problem to begin with. The drum usually never goes out of round . Replace bearing best choice
