What are leather shoe care & maintenance tips and advice?

Some tips from our in-house experts
Caring for your Clark's footwear will not only prolong the life of your shoes, but will keep them looking in tip-top condition for longer. Here are a few key steps you can take to look after your favorite leather footwear.
  1. Use a damp cloth to remove soiling then let dry naturally - never on top of a radiator, next to the oven, near the fireplace - just somewhere at room temperature.
  2. Use a colored polish that matches your shoe color to restore any damaged areas, filling in the scuffed away spots .
  3. Use a good leather cream - this acts like a moisturizer for your shoes but with added benefits, again helping to build up a protective barrier.
  4. Use a shoe-protecting product to build up a protective barrier, this way, your shoes will last longer!
THE SHOEMAKER"S TOP TIP
To get a really good shine use a damp cloth when polishing leather shoes. Once the cloth starts to 'grip', stop polishing, let the shoe dry naturally, then buff with a dry cloth. Repeat until your achieve the level of shine you want. All shoes will benefit from a shoe-tree, especially leather shoes which have been wet as the tree will help maintain a good shape.

the plushy soles retain odor

First of all you can buy Ecco products like the foam cleaner or the waterproofer which might help get rid of the smell and stop it from coming back. Click here for a website that has those products. Or you may want to try just some home remedies which I have recommended people with rubber shoes try. A quick fix can be to wash the shoes by hand once in a while to get them from smelling. Use soap or alcohol to scrub them off and put outside to dry, but since your shoes are not rubber alcohol might effect them differently. This may get rid of what collects on the shoes and gets rid of the smell. Then let them air dry, putting them in the sun can be most effective. These solutions should help if not try the old trick of putting a bag freshener in your bag when you put them away for a little bit.

my light blue emericas are dirty & idk how to clean them it saddens me :(

Get a big zippered laundry bag (available at grocery stores in the laundry aisle or big stores like Wal-Mart or Target). It should be big enough to hold both shoes; if not, get two bags, one for each shoe. Take the laces out of your shoes, and put them in the bag with your shoes. Use the hand-wash or gentle cycle on your washing machine, and your regular detergent. You can wash other clothes with your shoes.
After the washing cycle ends, take your shoes out of the bag and let them dry in the sun. You might need to dry them with a bath towel first if they are dripping wet. Good as new!
