Tip & How-To about Hand Tools

Crankshaft damper turning tool

In a pinch, don't have the right tool, take an old serpentine belt,

cut it to fit around the damper plus about 4inches on each side,

take some welders c clamp pliers and pinch the serpentine belt

close to the damper, now you have a handle to turn as well as

leverage. good luck!

To replace a drive belt.
Before starting unplug from mains power source.
1, Remove the rubber platter mat to expose the platter.
2. Put your thumb and forefinger through the two round holes and lift the platter off. You may need to give the centre spindle a light tap (whilst applying upward pressure) with a screwdriver handle or some similar tool that will not leave any marks or damage.
3. Remove the old belt and wipe the platter pulley and motor pulley with an alcohol swab to remove any old belt residue.
4. Place the new belt around the platter pulley making sure t is sitting flat without any twists.
5. Flip platter over the right way up. There are1or 2 larger rectangle shaped cut outs in the platter.
6. Through the cut out pinch up the belt and slip a finger or belt hook between the platter pulley and the belt gripping the belt ready to fit over the motor pulley.
7. Align the centre hole of the platter with the spindle and place platter back into position keeping a grip on the belt.
8. Slip belt over motor pulley and give the platter a light clockwise rotation to ensure the belt is riding correctly.
9. Replace the rubber mat and then run the turntable to ensure correct operation.

Job done.

the belt came off my record player how do i put it back on

take out the plate. there is a small wheel that turns and a big wheel below the plate. You should put the belt around them both and then put the plate on it (be careful, it's heavy).

I can't find the right harmonic balancer for my '86 jeep cherokee. I need one for a v-belt type (it has two belts on the one balancer going different directions). the one i keep finding is for a serpentine belt.

Don't know if you purchase auto parts online, but here is your part. Its about $75. go to jeep4x4centerdotcom and search for Part # 3225201. It is called a Vibration Damper - Harmonic Balancer) w/ V-Belt Hope this solves your problem.

how do i take of a pulley and tensioner of a 94 Dodge Caravan 3.0 L V6

You'll need a Serpentine Belt Tool and a socket set.

Rotate the Caravan's serpentine belt tensioner assembly clockwise to relieve the tension on the belt. Slip the belt off the tensioner with your free hand before rotating the tensioner back to its home position. Remove the tool.
Extract the two mounting bolts that hold the serpentine belt tensioner assembly to the Caravan's front engine cover using your socket set. Depending on your physical size and dexterity, you may find this easier to accomplish through the top of the engine well or through the passenger-side wheel well.
Pull the old serpentine belt tensioner assembly out of the Caravan's engine bay by hand. Place the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly on the Caravan's front engine cover and bolt it in using your socket set.
Rotate the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly clockwise with the serpentine belt tool and then place the belt on the pulley by hand. Rotate the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly back into place. Remove the tool and close the hood.
