Tip & How-To about Facebook Apps

How to stop Facebook from sending you email

So this is a pretty common issue I've seen, and frankly it's pretty easy to solve. There are a few ways you can go about it.

First you can disable all of the emails being sent by going to Account> Account Settings > Notifications and just going through and disabling anything being sent to an email. However, in my experience this also disables the notifications sent to you through facebook (the ones in that little world sign), and you may want some of those. Well in that case you can do this:

Go to Account > Account Settings and on the main settings page the third option down is Email, press change. Add a new contact email, it does have to be real, because you do have to be able to see the email (untested: you may even be able to simply use an email generator that allows you to view sent emails).

After confirmation, return to Account > Account Settings > Email and switch your contact email to the new email address.

wont light up or do anything

The Keurig appliances I've seen lack fuses or the like and are pretty involved to disassemble. They also have a knack for leaking water as they get older. If yours is leaking - even a little bit - the water can drip on electronics and cause a failure.

Unless it is under warranty, there's little that I've seen that a consumer can do without a great deal of frustration to even open it up. With that said, there is one thing you can do that is easy to do and just might solve your problem. Check the outlet. Modern kitchen circuits are "ground fault" protected. This protection comes from a special circuit breaker in your panel - or a special outlet in the kitchen. Regardless of the way the protection comes to you, both devices have "test" buttons. The outlet style has a "reset" button to restore power and the circuit breaker is restored by pushing the handle to "OFF" and then pushing back to "ON". If the outlet is powered, then this will not be the problem. Check it with any electrical appliance or lamp.

Good luck!

Expant Shield does not connect anymore. One day it worked fine and since about a week it does not connect anymore. No changes to location, computer, internet connection, etc. Possible that my ISP (I live in China) does block it?

That is a typical problem/issue. What happens is the ip block gets blacklisted and no longer works. All you need to do is wait a few days and it should work again. I think the longest I've seen it down lately is about 4 days or so. Hotspot is pretty proactive on fixing the connections so it usually is much faster. There are a few things you can try such as disconnecting, wait a minute and then reconnect to get a different ip. If the ip is out of the blacklisted range you should be able to watch the BBC/IT4 etc again right away. If not then about all you can do is wait and keep trying to connect. The disconnects I've seen recently are very short compared to when they first started. Those lasted weeks sometimes.

Toshiba L300D 242 Satelitte running extremely slow what can I do

You are most likely infected with spyware and other junk. This is an extremely common problem I fix on an almost daily basis for folks.

What you need is a complete clean up of your system.
CCleaner and Malewarebytes will help with the issue but not completely solve everything.

The only true way to get your system completely clean is to contact a Professional Tech.

I recently bought a Nikon D-40 and was wondering if there was a way to take pictures using the monitor rather than looking through the view finder. I have looked at the directions numerous times yet can't figure it out.

Nope. The LCD is only for viewing images in playback mode, and for setting the menu choices. Very few digital SLR's have what you are looking for, which is most commonly called "live view". Frankly, it isn't a very easy thing to use on any camera I've seen, because you need to lock the mirror in the up positon, view your image on the LCD and compose the shot, then lower the mirror before you can take the picture. Once you're used to the eye-level viewfinder, I think you'll find it's just fine. Enjoy your D-40.
