Tip & How-To about Campbell Hausfeld 04 Gallon Twin Stack Compressor HL5502

How to Adjust an Air Compressor Regulator

  • Plug the air compressor into the appropriate electrical socket. There are a few air compressors that come with a 4-prong electrical cord, but most of them will come equipped with a 3-prong electrical cord. The 3-prong electrical cord is set for use with a standard 110 outlet. The 4-prong electrical cord is generally used for 220 outlets.
  • Turn on the machine.
  • The air compressor should be fill completely to the range from 100 to over 200 per-square-inches, depending on the unit capacity.
  • The manufacture guide will inform you which tools can be used with the unit once it has reached full pressure.
  • The tool should be connected to the air hose and the air hose to the compressor.
  • To drop air pressure you should turn the regulator adjustment knob counterclockwise and to increase the air pressure you should turn it clockwise.

need to wire my 5hp compressor to a 11hp 5500 watts generater

I'm not sure what you mean by "wire my 5hp compressor to a 11hp 5500 watts generator?" The compressor should have a three prong plug-in cord from the pressure regulator and the generator should have a three prong outlet to plug it into. Do not try to wire the compressor directly to the power generator (dynamo), the current must go through the circuit board then to the outlet to make sure your compressor motor is getting the proper current.

will sometimes trip breaker when starting

Your compressor may not be unloading completely. Check for leak at intank check valve. Follow the airline from pump to tank. Remove the airline from he brass valve, with air in the tank spray soapy water to check for leak, replace as needed. If no leak the examing the pressure switch where 1/4 tubing connects. There you will find a small lever that opens a stem to unload air from airline. You can test the function by running the pump then switching off at the pressure switch, listen for release of air. If works ok then not enough power is reaching the compressor. Use very little or no cord and do not overload plug with other tools.
